What!!!!! No more Dino-Crisis. Bye-Bye!

I still hope the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection gets released (I could care less about online though). Otherwise, oh well. I've still got RE 4, Viewtiful 2 and Killer 7 coming for GCN.
I can't wait for True Fantasy Live too... |

True Fantasy Live Online Cancelled
http://xbox.ign.com/articles/520/520861p1.html "June 02, 2004 - Development on True Fantasy Live Online for the Xbox has been halted, publisher Microsoft and developer Level 5 revealed via a press release issued today. The game, originally scheduled for Japanese beta test in the Summer and release some time this Fall will no longer see the light outside of the Level 5 development studios. As for reasons for the cancellation, the press release stated, "Development was continuing for a release this Winter, but we still did not see progress towards a state that would deliver a new form of Online experience to users, so we regretfully decided to stop development." Level 5 president Akihiro Hino posted a few comments on the cancellation at the company's website. "The game had been showcased to the media, the world of TFLO was already complete, and within it, it was possible to live a virtual life to a degree," comments Hino. He continues, "We continued development with the aim of making a network game that we ourselves would want to play. However, development required more time than expected, and as a result, the amount of time people would be able to play slipped considerably." Following an apology, Hino continues, "Taking this as a lesson, we will polish our development capabilities and continue to take new challenges. We hope that you will support us." True Fantasy Live Online, announced at E3 two years ago, was meant to be one of Xbox Live's killer apps for the Japanese market. With a well-known developer (Factor 5 is currently developing Dragon Quest VIII, likely to be the biggest selling title of this generation in Japan) and some tantalizing trailer footage, many were eagerly anticipating the massively multiplayer Online RPG's release. Although appearing, to good review, in playable form at last year's Tokyo Game Show, delays took the title away from its original Japanese Summer release. We expect clarification into the cancellation to come from Microsoft Japan at its upcoming Summer press briefing, scheduled for some time in the next few weeks." |
Misleading thread title - Capcom always has had weak support for the Xbox and they're not dropping it - not completely. And anyway... out of the 25 games they have planned, they'll probably only release 1/3 of them. Not that I wouldn't love to have more Capcom games available on Xbox. I like Capcom alot. MS hasn't played the asian market very smart at all since the beginning. They were disorganized and it took them years to realize they need to be more flexible when dealing with 3rd parties... especially Japanese developers. They are learning and they'll do better with the next console.

Isn't True Fantasy one of those games that just lost a publisher and is still shopping for a new one?
|
No, True Fantasy Live Online is totally canned. Finito. Some say that it may turn up as a Xbox Next title, but don't hold your breath.

The Xbox 2 needs to have two things for it to be successful in Japan:
1) Be smaller 2) Have the support of Square-Enix It'd also be nice if the controllers were more thought-out from the start. |

Similarly, I've never understood the controller complaints either. I've played pretty much every system there is, and the original Xbox controller is BY FAR the most comfortable I've used. It is the only controller I can use for extended periods without hand cramp. I have big hands for my size, but they're not huge. The PS2 controller sucks. I'm not a big fan of the Xbox S-controller either. I really could not care less if the Japanese think our console/controller is too large. As is, the Xbox is largely a console for mature American gamers, and I appreciate that. If MS wants to make a special small, pink "Hello Kitty" Xbox2 for Japan, fine. Options are good. If MS can please them and still please us (Americans), all the better. However, I don't want to see the Xbox2 turn into a largely "kiddie" oriented system like the Gamecube. Sadly, I think that is what it may take to do well in the Japanese market. I'd rather MS say "buh-bye" to the Japanese market if it means making the Xbox 2 like that for everybody else too. |

Originally posted by JM I've never understood the problem with the Xbox's size. It is really not that much bigger than a PS2, especially once you add the PS2 HD and the network adapter (which for comparison is only fair). |
Originally posted by JM I've never understood the problem with the Xbox's size. I mean, given the opportunity, I would prefer smaller almost every time. It's why I bought a PSOne. I'd like to see a PS2 version of that, as well. Similarly, I've never understood the controller complaints either. I've played pretty much every system there is, and the original Xbox controller is BY FAR the most comfortable I've used. |
The X-box is too big. My HT is packed full of crap (4 consoles, receiver, DVD player, CD player, DirectTV box, system selector etc) it took some major juggling. Plus it's so heavy I don't want to set it on my flimsier dvd or cd player and the beveled top makes stuff not sit well on top of it.
The original controller was WAY to big for my hands and the white and black buttons where tough to use. I don't like the PS2 controller either. The GC controller, especially the wavebird, is the best I've used. The d-pad and z-button stink, but they're rarely used in the games I've played. The type S is great though, second best I've ever used. Only gripe is the white and black buttons are still in horrible places. |

As for the D-pad i use them in a lot of games - Tony Hawk, any fighting game etc. so a good digital pad is something i want in my controllers. |
I never had any problems with the xbox size either, I mean it isn't like i'm picking it up and dragging it with me when I go out, sure I had to do some juggling to get it to fit in my setup but I would have had to do that with anything larger then a crayon box . Once I was done that was it, a good friend of mine refuses to buy an Xbox until a smaller version that was rumored way back when comes out and i'm scratching my head everytime he uses that excuse.

Originally posted by joshd2012 Did you read the same article I did? They have one title under development for the Xbox and no more after that. I think that signifies that Capcom is Dropping Xbox. He said his company, which currently makes one game exclusively for the Xbox, isn't interested in developing more. "There are no plans,'' Abe said in an interview. ``It's just not profitable enough.'' Of the 25 games Capcom plans to release this year, only one will be compatible with the Xbox. ---------------- It says exclusive titles. They don't plan anymore exclusives. Although I can see how this was misread. |
Originally posted by joshd2012 Well, the HD is internal (except for the first version of the system which was only released in Japan) and the broadband adapter only sticks out a half inch. When you add those two, the PS2 doesn't even come close to the size of the Xbox. BTW I have a PS2. Bought it on the launch date, in fact. Haven't played it in at least a year. I had a Dreamcast before it, and the PS2 (at least in the initial games) was not as impressive as it was. I *am* glad I bought a PS2 though for one reason: GTA3. That game alone made it worth it. Since then, there have been few games I was interested in on the PS2 for which there wasn't a better version on the Xbox. The PS2 was a poor design: only 2 controller ports at a time when 4 was becoming the norm and very difficult to program for by all accounts. As a result, there were very few good games for a long time. If it didn't have the Sony PS hype behind it and had Sega any marketing skill at all (well, maybe had they not pissed off their cusomers with the ill-fated 32x, SegaCD, Saturn, etc.), it wouldn't have made it. It did. Now, of course, time has cured many of the PS2's flaws. It is a good system--not as good as Xbox IMO (and certainly not as versatile when you take 3rd-party uses into account--i.e. Linux, XBMC, etc.), but good. I am not anti-Sony (well not the PS line anyway, their lower end A/V stuff is not very good for the money but that's another story). I will buy a PS3 if it has good features and good games. Same goes for the Xbox2. And, while I loved my NES, SNES, and N64 (and used to be a huge Nintendo fan in general), Nintendo and I seem to have parted ways with age and differing visions of console gaming. |
