A realistic helicopter flight sim?
Is there a realistic helo flightsim? Not looking for one of the 1000s of arcade games, but a 'real' sim?
|
Flight Simulator 2004 has helicopters. I think EA has an Apache sim that is supposedly fairly realistic. I think it's called Jane's Longbow, or something like that.

I am looking for something civilian as kind of a prep for a real private helicopter pilot license, so maybe Fsim 2004..Apaches are probably not a good choice for recreational flying ;)
|
There was a game for the PlayStation called R/C Stunt Copter which was a realistic sim of flying a radio-controlled helicopter.

Just about the most realistic consumer flight sim out there, including rotorcraft. I'm a private pilot and use it every once in a while. Nothing you do on your home PC will ever come close to the real thing but this is the best there is. BUT, this one recently received FAA approval for use in flight training, such as for ATP, if it uses certain equipment, such as level D quality motion simulators. ;) |

There's always Choplifter III.

try space taxi for the c64

Desert Combat.

Desert Combat and Choplifter don't seem particularly realistic. Hell, up until the more recent revisions the DC helicopter felt less like a helicopter and more like a hovering airplane. It's getting better though.
Anyway I second the Longbow recommendation made earlier in this thread, particularly Longbow 2. It's rather long in the tooth now (five or six years old, at least) but it still hasn't been surpassed as far as I'm concerned. |

BTW, This game was a POS!! ... the levels are tiny, really annoying and extremely basic mission objectives. The realisim is slightly there. One or two games like slamming the copter into the side of a bran were ok. The VO guy wasn't bad and had a few funny lines like "You Suck!"... The best (Sarcasm) part of the game is when you beat it. You get a ending movie of... TADA.. David Perry (founder of Shiny, the developer) and of how your prize is his RC Helicopter but he can't get it through the camera. He then proceeds to say.. "Go home..... Thanks.. you did good!" Not worth it IMO... |

Yeah, I should've figured that when you said "Choplifter." I confused that with "Comanche" (which isn't very realistic at all but isn't so completely terrible that it would've been an obvious joke).
