Mechassault newbie help needed.

Does anyone have any tips for a Mechassault Xbox Live newbie? I played for a few hours last night and was lucky to get about 5 kills, and was killed about 100 times. Whats a good mech for a newbie? I pretty much am sticking to deathmatches until I get the hang of it. Thank you all for your help.

Join TDM and watch your teammates. This is only if you get some decent teammates.

The first mech I learned with was the Mad Dog.Weapons are easy to use and its fast the only problem is it has no defensive measures.BUt if you can learn to play without the defense then you pretty much can hang with any mech.

Then move on to a Belial.Sit back and snipe with its Gauss Rifles.

Also do a lot of "Grinder" mode offline. It will help sharpen your skills.

I LOVE the Gauss Rifle on the Timberwolf. If you time it right you can take down Mechs from a distance.

Newbies should always start with PPC weapons IMHO. But they can hear you comin' as you power it up.

I recommend the single player Grinder mode for practice as well. Starts off with 1 mech until the ragnarock. Them 2 come at a time. I got very profecient with the Catapult. A Mad Cat with PPC's is the easy way out IMO.

I agree. But once you realize this then you'll want to move on to something else.

Do the PPCs still home in on you like bloodhounds on steroids? Is there any way to avoid these things in open field?

throwing chaff or making the Mech Anti-radar. What about moving behind buildings before it hits you?

Chaff doesnt work against PPC's.The radar jam does though.

Want to know the secret of dealing with Madcats and thier PPCs?

Use a Catapault!

PPCs home in? WTF they're supposed to basically be lightning bolts not guided weapons

Yep, my complaint as well. In the single-player game, they don't home... or they don't home as well as in multi. (I forget, it's been a while since I've played.)

I didn't know about the chaff or anti-radar stuff. And yeah, jumping behind buildings can work, but I was curious about dodging in open field. The urban levels get leveled pretty quickly sometimes, too.

hmm, then maybe in multi it's done to make up for lag?
is lag an issue on the online console games like most pc games?
I'm torn on the console Battletech games. it's cool getting more people exposed to BT, but if they "water it down" or make it too arcadey I'd prefer they didn't put them on consoles
