Maybe they could go the splinter cell route for multiplay. They could have different views for the different teams. The Army soldiers would play just like they do now, but the terrorists would play in 1st person or even 3rd. Have 2 players on the Army side and 16 on the terrorists. If the AI is as smart as they say, the terrorists would have a hard time. Even against an ambush.

EDIT: I didn't even read the previous reply before I wrote this one. It sounds like a great way of playing.

I love this game. The training missions are pure bleh though, but at they do make it so the rest of the game is fast paced.

Additionally, the real army version of this game is on the disc. If you have a mod chip you can run army.xbe on the disc to hop into that game.

That is pretty awesome. Too bad my Xbox isn't modded. I think when you beat the game it unlocks the extra hard 'army-like' difficulty....

Here is the code to unlock the army version. It supposedly is quite different, although I haven't tried it yet.

I really like how this game's AI is very tough, and unforgivable. If you make a mistake by accident, they make you pay for it. That really makes you plan out strategies and think things through before carrying them out.

It is supposed to be 6 totally new missions for it, and they are extremely difficult. There is also a mission editor, not sure how that works though. With another 6 missions, that should increase the playtime a decent amount. I know once I am done, I will be going back through on 'Authentic' mode.

edit: This is from IGN

The first is the Authentic Difficulty. To unlock this, head to the Cheat Menu and enter "SWEDISHARMY". You'll need to create a new profile and select the Authentic difficulty. This leaves you with two frag grenades, two smoke grenades, one RPG and no icons over characters heads. Is that enemy suppressed? Run into the open and find out, because no icon will indicate this for you. Though stuff.

The second is the much-needed Big Head mode. To turn this on, go to the Cheat Menu and enter "NICKWEST". Now enter your game and everyone, your men and your opposition, will have giant heads.

Here are the details to the difference in the Army version that is on the cd..

First of this is the stuff you saw from the old trailers where the hud is different.

Im just going to go through and list examples.

The HUD is different. You can actually take control of a man its called the N.U.D.G.E system and you can pin point exactly where you want him to look. So basically you can individually make the team look in different directions while in position.

The enviroment seems to be a major factor. Wind, ETC.

The controls are vastly different.

The graphics are worse. As in lower framerate, and V-sync tearing all over. Like some of the old videos.

Im not sure about being able to go inside building totally means.

There are alot of under passes and i have seen areas with stairs. Though I feel the civilian version is better. The controls are more streamlined.

Also in the army version there are civilians running around. They will even get in your face and scream how much they hate america. You can toggle them on or off.

Also when you go into that nudge mode I was taliking about. You can move the guy totally away from the group with the analog stick.

Some other notes.

There are only 6 maps. They are huge. Seem alot more open ended then the Civilian version. You have no GPS. So there is no ingame map.

The game is way more customizable.

You can pick wind conditions the experience o your troops.

MAIN DIFFERENCE IS THERE ARE 5 MEN TO A TEAM.

Anyone know if the Burbank Frys in L.A. still has this game in stock? I want to swing by tomorrow morning and pick up a copy.

edit: To answer my own question, as of 10am (Friday) there are plenty of copies of both FSW and Riddick.

khai 06-05-04 02:48 AM

Ah! Thanks flashburn. I was going crazy trying to find where the nudge feature went because I remembered, plain as day, that the first E3 video shown for this game showed the nudge feature as they made a fairly big deal about. It could've came in handy a few times. :)

Hehe, that civilian thing sounds pretty cool. It would've been funny if they kept that in.

kar10 06-06-04 09:10 PM

I played this game and it's not for everyone even for those who are into military games like ghost recon, ect...

You don't do anything but to plan attack and that's it. You don't get to shoot anyone or wonder around like Ghost Recon.

cowboy 06-06-04 10:33 PM

The game is all about finding cover, laying down fire, then getting your other team into position to kill the enemy. It has some very rigid rules. If you're team is behind cover (though it may not look like it on the screen), then you're safe from all bullets. So is the enemy. Either your completely safe, or completely vulnerable. There is no in between. You just move between areas and try to find the best spot to kill the enemy with whatever weapons you have.

It may sound real lame and boring, but I find it very enjoyable. Its not really a real time game. The enemy won't make a move until you make a move. Sometimes they'll pull out an rpg, but thats about as random as the battles get. I guess you can compare it to advance wars with amazing graphics.

Playing on live is great too. Having to really on your team mate as your other set of eyes. He may tell you to go around the corner and take cover behind the car. You won't be able to see it, but with the curser and movement controls, you can move your curser around the corner and 'feel' for the car. You'll know from the icons that pop up on the lower right. Some might think the controls suck, but they're just not being calm.

Replay may suck after you beat it a few times though. The enemy's are in the same spot every time. I started the game on normal, and began playing it on hard while on live. Its noticable harder on hard, so I may play it through a few times on every difficulty. It's easy to just jump into for an hour and come back later. All the sections are broken off nicely. Make sure you save or you'll have to sit through a replay.

Replays sounded cool when they announced it. Too bad you have absolutely no control unless you jump in. The only options are fast forward and pause. Fast forward isn't fast enough.

You've seen the graphics and the hype, so I'm not gonna go into it. I've wanted this game since it was announced and followed it til I bought it. Other than a few of the things I mentioned, I am completely satisfied. It's not overhyped. It's everything you were expecting if you followed the game.

I've played it for a few hours now, on and offline, and I find it very enjoyable. I like halo, madden, amped 2, and tetris. I hate splinter cell and fighting games.

RichC2 06-06-04 11:03 PM

It's an interesting, fun game. Agreeably - it's a bit rigid, but fun non-the-less.

That said, I've been starved for a unique game for sometime, and this - some how - has delivered on a few levels so far.

But then, I pretty much like all sorts of games (Halo to Splinter Cell, SSX3 to Madden to Puyo Pop Fever to whatever). Originality is underrated. And while FSW doesn't work on all cylinders, it's definitly better than a lot of the generic stuff coming out.

That's when you pull out the code and whip out the ARMY version of the game. Even if you're behind cover, you can still get hit.

It's like a totally different game.

I'm into this game right now, but the more I play it, the more its one-dimensionality is becoming clear. There is often only one path through areas... sure, you can pick which cover you use going through that one path, but you can still only go down that path, and not down the next alley. It also doesn't feel like there are enough enemies (or people in general... where the hell is everyone in these towns?)... I would've liked feeling a little more overwhelmed at times. More often than not, it seems like you're only going against one guy at a time. It is starting to remind me of Kill.Switch in the sense that I was excited to play it at first because of its novel approaches to combat, but then as I kept playing, I realized that there wasn't much to it past that. A good game, but not great.

Same here. I'm still enjoying it, but not as much as I hoped I would. There are very few tactics you can actually use. "Let's see, should I flank them... or should I flank them?"

I also feel pretty much the same way. I think this is probably going to be the case where the sequel could become a really great game, whereas this one is just 'good'.

damn_skippy 07-02-04 12:49 PM

How many levels/chapters are in this game?

Gromit 07-02-04 10:24 PM

12 I think. I'm on number 5.

damn_skippy 07-02-04 11:54 PM

that sucks i just beat the game in 2 days.
