Robosapien! $99 Robot...

This isn't really video game related, I just thought some of you guys might find it interesting...
http://www.wowwee.com/robosapien/robo1/robomain.html

The Inquirer has a small write up about it here : http://theinquirer.net/?article=15974

It is actually available at Best Buy, and I am going to check it out in a few hours. It sounds like a neat little toy.

Here is the commercial : http://www.wowwee.com/robosapien/robotvc.html

Anyone that went to E3 get to check this thing out?

I have one, it's pretty neat. It was worth what I paid for it just to see my kitty play with it. If there's any questions about him, I can answer them...

Would you mind giving some sort of a short review on it?

Thanks!

I saw a video a couple of months ago of the designer doing a demo at a toy show. Pretty impressive for $99.

My Aibo was a hell of a lot more expensive and it just sits in the corner collecting dust.

I played with one at best buy. It's pretty cool, and it can dance like nobody's business.

But is it as fun as asking R2-D2 about Darth Vader? Anyone know if the price on that thing ever dropped?

I'll just stick with my ARMATRON, which I still own. (This is not actually a picture of mine, because mine's missing the tubing and some of the stickers.)

Ok, so I went to Best Buy. They had a display model setup, and about 4-5 to sell. After messing around with it for about 10 minutes, I decided to get it. Now I just need to wait until I finish work to go home and mess with it. I am tempted to bring it into the office...hehe

I don't know if I'd want a robot called the Queerio.

He's always watching me change. *WHIMPER*

I played around with it at e3. It's a glorified remote control car. Not very impressive at all. Half the actual tasks they tried to show at the booth (picking up a cup) it couldn't do. It didn't seem to acomplish anything other than move. Looks cool, but it's just a remote control toy.

What did you expect it to do? Make your dinner?

Ofcourse it is a toy, that is the point!

edit: Well I just picked this up and played around with it for about an hour. It is very cool, definitely worth my money.

Oh, and it is funny..the first thing I tried to make him do was pick up a cup (they include a little plastic cup, heh). It took me maybe a minute, to get him to walk over to the cup, pick it up, and then throw it, the first time.

I can't figure out why, but humanoid robots seem kind of freaky to me. Remember that Asimov video from a couple of years ago where the robot was playing with the little girl in the cobblestone street? I just kept waiting for it to rip her arms off or something.

That clip reminds me of some movie.. Where it shows you all the clips about how "great" something is really quickly ("changing the channel") and then everybody winds up dead.

It's Evil!

it's that very unease that i am so fascinated by! it's sort of like standing near a cliff or watching an episode of the Office.

w/ I Robot coming out (looks kind of dumb, imo), maybe there's some sort of zeitgeist occuring?
