Street Fighter Returns!

Street Fighter Returns!
North American audiences get reintroduced to Shadowloo.

April 06, 2004 - As we reported in a story published last week, there were strong rumors circulating out of Europe that Capcom planned to publish Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition and Street Fighter III: Third Strike - Fight for the Future as a bundle pack in North America. And though Capcom declined to comment at the time of our original article, it went ahead and came clean today by announcing that the suspected compilation does in fact exist.

To be called Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, the new collection will feature the entire contents of the Japanese anniversary disc, Hyper Street Fighter II.(a Vampire Chronicle-style hybrid of characters from all previous versions of Street Fighter II) and the ultra-slick arcade and Dreamcast follow-up, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection will be released exclusively in the U.S. market later this summer. We'll keep you updated with more as it becomes available.

Not technically "another" game, but rather just a compilation port of several old ones.

I have a better idea, an Alpha 3 and Third Strike double pack for Xbox Live.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection coming to Xbox Live.
Hyper Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.

I'd love to get this, but first I need 2 things: an Xbox and broadband.

Yep...just read this over at IGN

May 07, 2004 - Capcom Entertainment announced today that Street Fighter Anniversary Collection will not only appear on Xbox, it will appear on Xbox Live this fall 2004. That's right, as part of Street Fighter's 15-year anniversary, Capcom is bringing this massive 2D fighting compilation to the big black box.

The compilation comprises Hyper Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, which includes the entire contents of the Japanese anniversary disc, Hyper Street Fighter II. And players can get online for one-on-one fights for endless competitions of the classic 2D arcade brawler.

Hyper Street Fighter II gives gamers the opportunity to play as any of the fighters from Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Champion Edition, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighter, Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo. So, imagine fighting as Ryu or Ken from Street Fighter II with the more advanced Ryu or Ken from Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and you'll get the picture.

Hyper Street Fighter II features three game modes, Arcade mode, where you face off against AI opponents to fight the final boss; Vs. Mode, in which gamers fight mano a mano; and Training Mode, where they train. Gallery offers each game's introductions and their corresponding music tracks.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike offers up 19 playable fighters including Makodo, Q, Twelve, and Remy. And making a cameo appearance (is it really any surprise?) visit is Chun Li.

This game also offers three game modes, Arcade Mode (a direct conversion from the arcade), Vs. Mode, and Training Mode. It also enables players to evaluate their performances in the Grade Judge Match, participate in an interesting Progressive Hit Frame System, perform Super Arts Moves, and confront enemies using a Leap Attack.

IGN will deliver more news on Street Fighter Anniversary Collection in the near future.

IF THAT'S NOT GOOD NEWS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS!!!

Yeah, Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition is sooooo last week.

I'm holding out for Hyper Street Fighter II Turbo Alpha 3: The Next Generation. I hear they have an awesome new palette swap of Ryu in mauve - and Chun Li's 391-hit combo has been extended to 397 hits. Can you imagine?

Well, I dont know about you guys but to me this is excellent news.

I feel that the original SF2 series is the best fighting game series ever created...better than the Alpha series. And now that anyone can pick from any version of their favorite fighter and play them online is just a dream come true for me.

The last time I was able to play a SF2 game online was on Xband for the SNES with SSF2.

Dont get me wrong....I like Capcom Vs SNK 2 for XBL but its just not my style of game.....now OLD SCHOOL SF2.....now there is something I can get down with

For those with an XBOX and a PS2, which version are you picking up? I'm guessing the PS2 version (which was supposed to come out recently and before the XBOX version) got delayed? EGM gave it pretty high marks, but gave no word of the differences between the two (except LIVE play for XBOX)... And the entire Street Fighter II Animated Movie is included as well?
