New info about Sony's PSP and PS3

Just got this info from the Gameinformer website. Hope it hasn't been posted yet. It all sounds pretty interesting. I even did the part about maybe two versions of the PS3. I would only be interested in one for gaming purposes and if a smaller pricetag came with it that would make my day. Anyway, hears what the article said.

In a recent interview, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves spilled the beans on a treasure trove on information regarding the company's PSP handheld system and Sony's next console.

Here are some of the most interesting points that he touched on:

The PSP will not be strictly a gaming system and could feature a GPS or GPRS capability.
The PS2 could get a facelift a la the PS One, to make it slimmer and "sexier."
There could be two different versions of the PS3: one for gaming and one that act as a "home server" of sorts, complete with massive hard drive..
Sony, according to Reeves, wants the PSP and PS3 out on the market by 2006, even commenting that by that year the PS2 will be 75% through its lifecycle.
A heavier focus on broadband is a key issue, not only for gaming but also for allowing console owners to download movies.
The PSP will contain 30 Mb of memory.
The possibility to take the PSP beyond the capabilities of the PS2 is something that Sony is hoping for, but currently there expecting it to be just below that console's capabilities.

sounds good to me... except for the GPS add-on which seems an odd choice. maybe they'll make a game like Boktai where your location matters

I'd love to have a gps system, so that would win me over, the only reason that I don't have one now is there so expensive...........which leads me to think that the PSP will cost that much more......sigh.

Don't the Japanese have a cell phone game that's exactly like that? There's a GPS in the phone and depending on your location, you can pick up different items during the day.

I like the idea of two systems, but I find it a little annoying that only the higher version will have the hard drive. I think that should be part of gaming systems.

I really hope this is true. I've been saying all along that I want a cheap, gaming only alternative to the set top box crap Sony and MS seem hell bent on or they're not getting my business next gen. No way I'm overpaying for a bunch of features I don't want, or already have in superior stand alone componets.

Again, I hope this is true. I'd love for the next gen systems to not launch until 2006 as I'm more than happy with the graphical capabilites of this gen's consoles and I'm in no hurry to shell out the $$$ to upgrade. I'll probably even hold out until the first price drop next gen before picking up any.
