X-Box and region code question.
I live in Australia but I am in the states right now and I was thinking of getting an X-Box as they are much cheaper here. Would it work there or are the games themselves region coded? I don't really care about playing DVDs in it...just games.

Well XBOX games that are sold here are on the NTSC standard. Is that the standard for Australia as well? If so, I don't think you should have any problems because I don't think that XBOX games are region coded like DVDs. However, I don't claim to be an XBOX expert, so I'd wait for some more sound advice. :)

Xbox games can be region coded.
I believe the 3 regions are North America, Japan, and everywhere else, but I could be wrong. I know they do not directly correspond to the DVD region codes. -Naan |
The region you get the X-box remote for, will be the region your X-box will be set at.
For example, if you have an X-box bought in the US and then buy the remote thingy from the UK - you will be able to play region 2 dvds on your X-box, and not any other region. You can only do this once. If you've alrady instaled the dvd-remote, then you're set. But that's for dvds - as far games - no, you're out of luck. Austraian games will not work with an American X-box. The X-Box also does PAL/NTSC conversion, so that's not a problem. |
Great, excellent info guys I appreciate it. It's not that it's that much more expensive in Australia but I figured since I was here I would get one. I never really played games but I was at a friends house and had a blast playing NHL Hockey...great fun...and wanted to get it.
Thanks again. |
