Battlefield Vietnam: Out 03-15-04, Anyone else picking it up?

Looking forward to this release. Battlefield Vietnam.

Anyone else picking it up?

I've played MOH:AA and Call of Duty, great games...but I've been playing BF:1942: Desert Combat almost exclusively for many months.

BF Vietnam is an upgrade to the BF:1942 game engine. Should be interesting.

Theres already mods in the works for it. Point of Existence is the main one.

Is there any incentive to the modding community to make mods for Battlefield Vietnam rather than Battlefield 1942? Like do they include better tools? I am just wondering what kind of following this is going to have in the modding community.

The interesting thing about this upgraded "engine" is that it allows heat seeking rockets, unlike the original BF:1942 engine, which Desert Combat is based on.

Now before you go and jump and say that this will make them too powerful...go over to www.fpscentral.com and check out the BF:V section. Tons of screenshots and info that the rockets, albeit heatseeking, aren't overly powerful.

Should make for some interesting times.

Another cool aspect is that the choppers will kick up dust and water depending on where they are coming down.

Screenshots look amazing.

Can't wait for this one.

I was intending on picking this one up, but after playing the UT2004 demo that seems like the game I'll be investing my free time online with.

I think i'm the only one that wasn't too impressed with the first one so i'll probably skip this one. UT2k4 on the other hand had a very nice demo. I'm gonna spend all my time playing onslaught, deathmatch and assult. Great modes

Like some others, I've decided to go with UT2004. The demo won me over.

Besides, I don't see how BF Vietnam can even possibly hope to compete with Vietcong, the greatest FPS of all time!

I don't ever remember hopping a ride in Vietcong

But after reading Gamespy's review i'm glad I went with UT2K4. BF:V does not look like a $40 improvement over the other BF:1942 release and mods.

I like the trailers EA released on the official site:

Flight of the Valkyries:
low res
high res

Surfin' Bird:
low res
high res

I installed it last night and it looks like my video card may have reached the end of it's life.
I've been running a GeForce 2 Pro for a long time and this game has definite issues with it.
That's a bummer, and it could turn this $40 game into a $200 upgrade.

Well, installed it last night and played for about five hours. All I can say is man I am_suck at this game.

I think my best score was 6 kills, and 20 deaths. People were killling me from everywhere. Heck, once I caused my whole team to die when I crashed the transport chopper. Guess I should learn to fly it before having everyone with me.

Anyone have any tips that might help me be a better player in this game. When I play Wolfenstein:ET I am normally in the top two or three on a 36 player server. Same thing when playing Metal of Honor.

Argh! Oh, and for some reason my video is all choppie when I turn the settings up. My pc is considered really good by all my friends so I do not think that is the problem.

I have a xp 2100 overclocked to 2.1ghz, ATI 9800Pro, and 1 gig of ram so I would think that I would not have any problems. Guess I was wrong.

Something is wrong with your system then. I have a XP 2500, 9800 pro and a gig of ram, with all settings at max running 1600x1200, no slow down what so ever. Try a different base driver for your Radeon, I am using older, 3.4's.

I'm someone who followed BF1942 for two years before it was released (and I bet no one else here even had heard of it except for a few months before it shipped..) but I won't be getting this. I saw the original potential of BF1942, and the end resault has too many little tiny problems that add up for me. It's still a lot of fun, but I'll wait a while for Vietnam.

I have it and am digging it so far. Runs smoother than BF 1942 for me for some reason. Less crowded servers maybe.

Single player is actually kind of fun and you can control the difficulty levels while you learn to fly.

Wow after taking an hour or so to get everything to run correctly becuase of the multiple bug's the only cool addition was the music in the vechicle and updated graphics. It's fun once you get it halfway optimized but not worth a $39.99 upgrade over BF:1942 and it's mods. I found Desert Combat far more addicting when I played it last year. There's potential for BF:V but they failed to maximize it before shipping. At least vehicle camping is minimized a little becuase you can't just stand around in the open without getting killed from a hidden enemy.

Hopefully when I get time to play UT2004 Sunday the Full version will not dissapoint as I had fun with the demo but the same maps got old.

You probably have antialiasing and anistropic filtering on. The game has problems with ATI hardware with these settings turned on.

I have a 9700 pro and won't be buying it until there is either a new driver or a patch for the game. I'll be damned if I can't use my AA/AF!

You lose the bet... pay up suckah.

I ordered this today... it'll be here by monday or tuesday along with a bunch of other games - don't know when I'll get time to check it out. Joint Operations looks like it might be promising too. Where will I find the time?

A kindred spirit!

It sure was weird that this wasn't some big hyped game, and just came out of nowhere wasn't it?

I am on the fence on picking this up. I played BF1942 pretty seriously with a clan until the birth of my son, and I'd like to get back into it.

Is it true you can use one of the transport helicopters to pick up vehicles and move them around the map? I remember reading that somewhere awhile back.

If it's true I'm totally using a tank as a wrecking ball.
