What's going on with Unreal Tournament 2004 Special Edition?

Hi,

Unreal Tournament 2004 has gone gold and is expected to ship on March 15th. However, I want to get the Special Edition (on 2 DVDs) that includes all the tutorials about editing. This was supposed to have the same release date (and same price from what I've seen). It was listed at Best Buy and Amazon and EB. But at Best Buy there is no "Pre-order" option. Instead it says "coming soon." EB has removed the page it had about the SE. And Amazon is no longer selling it either...

So, what's up? Are they delaying or canceling this Special Edition?

It's not delayed, it's selling out. It has a very limited run. If you can't find it online, you might still be able to find it at retail stores on the day of release.

For anyone that already placed an order at Bestbuy.com for the SE. You might want to give them an email to make sure you get it at the current listed price of $29.99. The price on this game just keeps dropping, even before its released!

Like I said, for anyone who ALREADY placed an order. If you read the first post you would see that you can no longer add it to your cart. It is basically sold out online, unless they get another shipment in.

Is there any online retailer that still has these in stock? Nothing at Best Buy, Outpost, Gamestop, EB, GoGamer,...Quite frustrating! :-(

Do you not have a Best Buy near you? Surely they will be getting in a few copies the day it is released.

Todays add mentioned that each store would receive 10 copies minimum. The in-store pickup option may take those out though. Better show up early.

what are you getting so mad for? it was just a simple question as i was getting other options just in case they didn't have it and also the best buy is like a 30 minute drive so i wondered if any stores that pricematch might be closer.

also bestbuy's ad says thursday. If i'm correct doesn't it come out today?

Getting mad? How did you come to that conclusion? You asked a few questions, and I answered. Sorry if you thought I had an attitude toward you.

The reason it says Thursday is Best Buy 'usually' gets stuff 1 day after specialty shops like EB or Gamestop, but sometimes not until 2 days, so they use that as a buffer. Whatever the shipping date EB or Gamestop etc., show is the shipping date, so it won't actually be in specialty stores till tomorrow.

whoa there, flashburn... calm down! no need to get all hot over this.

i actually find it hard to believe that the dvd version is selling out. never heard of a PC game that did that.

maybe in a month or 2, there will be a reprint or something.

i only ordered the dvd version b/c i didn't want the game on several cds and b/c the usb headset was included. i hear that a tutorial dvd is also included but my skillz are so 733t that i will not bother w/ it.

I think there are several factors here:

1. Limited Edition
2. Freebies (esp. headset)
3. Huge install (over 5 gigs)
4. Nearly everybody has a DVD drive now anyway.
5. Price. Same as the regular game (instead of a huge markup)

I'm hoping this sparks a new trend of more DVD releases.

i called gamestop and while it's a bit more the guy said that the computer says 39.99 for the dvd special edition tommorow. If bestbuy sells out then that's a viable alternateive to spending 60 bucks somewhere else

It's now available at Best Buy.com for pre-ordering! The "coming soon" has been removed! Yay! I quickly (as quickly as I could with a 31.2 connection) ordered myself a copy for $29.99!

so can you use the $20 rebate at ebgames for the DVD edition? and also the $10 rebate for having UT 2003 to get this game for $9.99 shipped (mine shipped free via UPS today).
