Anyone find Final Fantasy XI PS2 yet?

Well, since today is the ship date/launch date for the PS2 version of Final Fantasy XI I wanted to start a thread to find out if anyone has actually got their hands on the game yet and if so, your location.

I'm in Tulsa, OK and nobody I've checked with has it in yet. Best Buy and Target both say Thursday. Wal-mart says they were supposed to get it in today but never received it.

Argh!

I've got one pre-ordered at EB Games. They're pretty good at getting new release stuff on Wednesdays. I'll let ya know what happened tomorrow.

If you can wait to get it at Target on Thursday, they'll be selling it for $84.99

It was originally $99.99 but they're bumping of $15 because the free offer for the strategy guide never came through (something happened to the shipments).

We (gamestop) were getting it tonight (tuesday) for customers...good luck getting it at stores, and without pre-ordering. Sony + hardware = impossible to find...I recall waiting almost a month to find a memory card back in the day

Are Gamestop employees trained to say this to customers or something? Every time something new and big comes out, the Gamestop employees are all, "You'd better pre-order it now," and when I tell them I'll wait, they all scoff as if I'm an idiot. Yet I've never had trouble finding anything outside of gamestop. This goes for the PS2, Xbox, Vice City (which the Gamestop employees told me was going to be banned everywhere else, so I'd better preorder it there), the Network adaptor...I think I'll take my chances with Final Fantasy (which I'm really just getting for the HDD anyway...) as well.

yeah, it's probably not worth it if you aren't ready for online. I talked to one person who got it last night from gamestop and said the new cd player is awesome. I'm getting it for socom and I also heard there is a new dvd player on it (I heard region free...which would be awesome). I do recall the network adapter was impossible to find for a couple months when it came out. I doubt that happens to this, since it is 100 bones.

Thanks khai for the heads up on targets sale...I just hope socom puts out its updates within the first week!

This one will be a much harder sell than the network adaptor because:

1) You have to like FFXI
2) You better have online capability (network adaptor + phone or broadband modem)
3) Cost is $100
4) Monthly fee to play FFXI

Yes, they are trained to say that. Penny Arcade had posted a part of the employee manual which specifically said that.

The BB near me said that it would come in thursday, but probably be on shelves on friday. Target's ad says Thursday. And I went to TRU and saw it on the shelf, but they said that they just got empty boxes (three of them?) yesterday. Huh? Why would they get shipped empty boxes? (I can understand one for display purposes before the game comes out, but right before release?)

The had it in stock at Target when I stopped by today. Apparently it's supposed to come with a strategy guide at Target (according to their Sunday ad). There was a note posted next to the game that due to production delays the strategy guide is not available, so they dropped the price to $85 because of this. It's worth calling up your Target and asking.

I hope to get mine sometime in the next couple of days as a reward for the beta test. The game was a lot of fun! However, with everything else going on at the moment, I don't know if I will jump into it again.

Take your Receipt Back to Customer Service & Ask for Pricematch with Target for $85 Sale Price. (1st Call your local Target double check the price & get the received/phone # ready to pricematch)

Bestbuy Price $100 & Free $10 GC.

After Pricematch $85 - 10% off ($8.50) - $10 GC = $66.50

lol, ya we are trained in a manual to say that alright...guess I never got that manual. Fact of the matter is...if ya want a game, why not reserve it and get free crap (t-shirts etc) most of the time. We ALWAYS sell out in the first evering or 2 of every major release...then get railed from idiots asking if we have it for the next few days....that would drive anyone to get as many people to reserve it as possible. Of course reservations help the store by gaining a customer base, but they also help customers get the game they want...they dont have to run around and ask for it...we even call them to tell them its here. As far as the HD went...I think we got 22 of them, and sold 12 in the first 30minutes...theres 3 left, and 2 are reserved...so It pays off to reserve things if you know you want it.

Your math is off.

First of all, BB would take into account that the deal is different and only give you credit for $90 vs. $85 (the GC amount). Also likely is that they would remove the GC from the equation to do the PM.

And it's 10% of the DIFFERENCE ($1.50 or $.50) NOT 10% of the total.

So if you go to Target and ask for the strategy guide (which they don't have), what do they tell you? That they sold out?

I went to a Target yesterday that had gotten them in, but refused to sell it before today. So I went to TRU and got one (regular price). Ah well... perhaps the BB deal is the best one, but I still can't find one that will get it in before Friday.

BTW, is there any thread where dvdtalkers playing this game are on a list, similar to the xboxlive one? I realize the world limitation is a problem, but I'd like to find out if anyone else from here resides in the same world...

If you have a chance, try to get on the Bahamut server. That's where I am and Bahamut is probably the coolest summon, so it cant be that bad.
