What about Eve of Destruction or Desert Combat? Both mods to EA's Battlefield 1942 engine.

But don't you have to own the 1942 game to be able to play these mods?

How's does this compare to E.T?

It's a lot more tactical, and there's more maps. There aren't a lot of different "jobs," like in E.T. There's a system in place where you earn "honor" which helps keep the idiots in check. It's worth checking out.

Do you have to install gamespy to play online? Actually do you have to install any add-ons to play online? I downloaded it but can't get any servers to connect to. I've even completed the basic training and registered to track my 'jacket'.
