Question about PS2 and Dolby Pro Logic 2

I was wondering how I can tell when my PS2 is using Pro Logic 2. Do I need to have a receiver that decodes Pro Logic 2 or just a receiver that does Pro Logic? I have an slightly older model Sony receiver that has DOBLY PRO LOGIC logo in the front. I don't hear anything different except that everything is louder. Am I suppose to hear slighty different sounds from my back speakers or just the same stuff?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Pro Logic II works somewhat the same way the original Pro Logic does since it's the same connections. If you have a reciever doesn't do Pro Logic II, it'll just come out like normal Pro Logic, except with a rear channel effects (at least that's been my experience with my Gamecube & Double Dash). It also depends on the title. I know some scenes of Metal Gear: Solid 2 are encoded in Dolby Digital and luckily my reciever lets me know which surround mode im in (i.e. Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital, or DTS of course with a toslink/coax connection).

Pro Logic II has stereo surrounds, where as Pro Logic is mono. In other words, Pro Logic II is poor man's 5.1 surround. It's backwards compatible with Pro Logic decoders, but you own't get the stereo surrounds.

So yes, in order to get Pro Logic II audio you'll need a receiver that decodes PL II. Most mid to high end receivers will display what source (mono, PL, PL II, DD, DTS, etc.) is being played.
