F-Zero GX Question

I was just curious to know if F-Zero GX is too difficult a game for a "casual" gamer. All the reviews I've read say it's pretty challenging. I enjoy Wave Race, but I wouldn't really don't want to have a racing game that is much more hard core than that. I should probably fork out the $6.00 to rent it but I'd like feedback first.

This game is quite difficult on normal. To unlock everything in the game requires finshing story mode on very hard.

I think it's possible to unlock everything with the AX arcade machine and your gamecube memory card but who knows if you'll ever find one of these in the US and how many quarters it would take.

That said, I still enjoy this game very much even though I'll never "beat it". The sense of speed and the graphics are superb. The whacky video game charector thing really transports me. Each charector has their own theme song, some of them quite good IMHO. This game has alot of depth for me and it might turn a casual gamer into someone who thrills from the challenge.

I consider myself a casual gamer, and I'd rate this game as too difficult me.

But it really comes down to why you play games, as I said recently in another thread.

Now there's nothing wrong with liking a challenge out of games, getting a sense of accomplishment from them etc., it's just not what I play games for.

My ideal game is something like any Zelda game past the NES ones, Super Metroid, KOTOR. Games that last a good while, but I never get really frustrated with. I like the challenge to be in explortation, solving puzzles, etc. rather than just hand eye coordination.

Thus I've never been a big fan of shooters or action games.

I think it depends on your attitude towards the game.

It is a racing experience not to be missed. However, if you are a completest and must unlock everything but think it is too difficult then it will prove to be very frustrating. If you go into it with a more casual attitude then you will enjoy it more.

My suggestion is to borrow or rent it. Or buy it cheap.

At this point you may be able to buy it and resell for close to what you bought it. Probably for less than six bucks difference atleast.

I enjoyed it but got stuck early on and haven't gone back to it. Casual gamer.

Once you play it, you get hooked. Everyone sucks at it at first, but you'll get better by playing. The story mode can get insanely difficult, but there's always the grand prix mode to brush up your skills. Its one of most rewarding games out there (not to mention best looking ).

I picked this up a couple weeks ago and haven't gotten really stuck on anything in story mode. I've been bouncing back and forth between the story mode and grand prix a lot, so I'm starting to feel pretty proficient. I never really felt anything was that difficult so far on just the normal difficulties. The Hard and Very-Hard difficulties are somewhat of a challenge though.

The game looks and plays awesome. Sega/Nintendo did a mind-boggling job with the graphics and sense of speed. I play on a 46' widescreen in prog. scan. and it looks so frickin' cool (1st/3rd person-it rocks). It is tough but screw it, I just play to have fun.

Definitely worth getting, this game is so much fun and the gfx are incredible!

It can be really hard, but it's a racing game not an adventure.
The goal is to enjoy the game, not just to get to the end.

You can always play multiplayer against your friends and wipe the floor with 'em

I don't look at it as too hard, I look at it as lots of replay value!

I think it is 3(the casino board) mission that took me 3 weeks to beat. I loaded it up on a lark to let some friends try it and they all gave it a whirl and lost, then gave it back to me and then I beat it on the first try! Pretty sweet. It is frustrating at times, but I say it is well worth it.

I love a tough game now and then but I gave up on this one ages ago. It was just too much for me.

If you want a more casual experience that's just as fun, try Mario Kart DD. F-zero really is made for the hardcore gamer.

Actually more like the hardcore racer. Or racer gamer. Or gamer who likes to race. Nevermind...

If I go that route I'll get sponge bob while I'm at it :-) Seriously , I'll just stick to diddy kong on the 64

I think I might pick it up. It's on sale at CC this week. Wipeout 3 for the PS got pretty intense but I got good at that. Now if they'd do a wipeout game for the GC that'd be cool.

I ended up giving it up as I was starting to fear for the well-being of my Wavebird. I came so close to throwing it, and then finally did (luckily no damage) so it was time to part with it.

If it were merely an issue of finishing last or near-last, I would have most likely kept it. It plays great and looks incredible. My problem was the few tracks I couldn't even finish because I kept falling off the track, and therefore I couldn't move on to the tracks past those. If it reset you on the track and you lost time (like wipeout games) that would have been okay too.

Don't get me wrong. It's a work of art. I just got too frustrated to play anymore.

Not everyone plays multiplayer often enough to keep a game just for that reason.

I do my gaming 99% or more solo as I live by myself and mainly just play games to relax and kill time. Most of my friends aren't into gaming, so when we get together it's usually to go out, or to watch sports or whatever.

This thread inspired me to finish story mode! Chapter 9 has no rails and is damned twisty, but I finally did it.

I haven't bought this game yet because of *THIS* reason.

But anyway...

Wait a minute are you saying that when you fall off the track the game starts the race all over and puts you at the beginning of the track? Lame

Also, anybody have the pleasure of playing this game on a front projector? How is the immersion factor?

Also, has anyone played the game using Logitech's force feedback steering wheel? How well does it control?
