Any of you guys heard about this??

I've heard people are using the GC to get disc images to their computer via the broadband connector... also to upload images for play on the GC -- including N64 and NES games....

I've heard you have to have Phantasy Star Online to make it work since you get your computer to spoof a PSO server to upload the code etc....

Thanks for any info...

Way too much work for choppy video/sound and bad gameplay most of the time....just rent a game if you are that hard up to play it and don't wanna waste $50.

You could buy a good handful of GC titles for the cost of the broadband adaptor (a lost cause) and a copy of PSO. Why would you want to play GC titles you already have the disc for, on your PC?

Well... I'm sure someone, somewhere has a use for it... :)

Just to clarify -- I'm not asking for ISO's or links to this stuff...

just for information... or rather confirmation.

I think it's pretty cool anytime someone can do something impressive technologically -- and I'm impressed...

I own plenty of GC titles... probably close to 50... so that's
not the issue...

I'm also impressed with Nintendo for twarting the hackers for so long -- think about how quickly the xbox was hacked...

I don't think nintendo really thought about the network hack or they would have thought of something to stop it... well it can be pretty hard to protect IP these days...

Your kidding right? Proof positive Nintendo "thwarted" the hackers is this useless method you posted. If you have to go through that much work to do something that weak then it truly isnt worth the hassle.

sounds like total BS to me as far as being able to play images and such... I know the hacking community has been able to rip the files from the disc in an unknown manner and create ISO's,<B><I> but hasn't been able to reproduce them onto the GC AT ALL</B></I>

It's worthless to try and defeat copy protections nowadays. If you simply can't afford gaming, rent the games. It takes more work to mod and i hate to hear the cries of "but the guy said it would work" or "how do i fix it". I literally blew out the fuse to my room when I modded my first Saturn (for region).

Both the xbox and PS2 are amazingly easy to copy games for. The huge pirate market here on campus seems to think it's worth their time as piratedgames are everywhere. Hell you can buy modded xboxes with 30 games preloaded on the harddrive for just $300.

Quite sad actually. :(

I'm modding my PS2 today to play imports. Since Sony is forcing me to do this I get the added benefit of being able to bootleg games if I wanted. Congratluations Sony!!

Yeah I had read about it. You hook up the Broadband adapter to the PC and read it from there, but I think it's limited because of something to do with the memory card and the bus or something interferes and game saves dont work on everything.

It does seem like a much bigger hassle than modding the Xbox or PS2.

Oh, Pixy.. they aren't FORCING you to mod the PS2 so you can play bootlegs (that's a nicer way of saying pirating).

No.. they're FORCING me to mod my PS2 to play IMPORTS. (read above).

Now because of that, I have the added ability to pirate.

it involves downloading the GC image, then streaming them off your hard drive through the broadband adapter and PSO. Since it cannot stream all the data fast enough, the gameplay is not 100% etc. Too much work for me.

Dude... clearly you have not playing Mario Kart:Double Dash on Warppipe. It ROCKS! Well worth the price of the broadband adapter IMO! :thumbsup:

Just spare yourself the hassle and download the emulator. It plays just about as many games (ie. 2).

There is no point in this GC hack other than to pirate games.

This isn't like X-Box hacking where you can play region free DVD's and stream Divx, use as a media player. Why is this thread still open?

Though it is kinda funny that it was a flaw in Sega's programming design that allowed people to do this.

They're just shocked that someone purchased a broadband adaptor for their GambeCube. ;)

You'd be surprised how much some people would go through just to not have to pay for anything... It's a shame really

Again it does not make it right. I dont mean to be all preachy but for god's sake I work my ass for the games I buy and all you did was click a few links and burn a few images. You are right though it is sad.

Please let us know how it goes for you, as I'm thinking of doing the same thing.


And just to be fair, it's not just Sony, MS and the big N also region code their stuff.

True.. but there's an easy solution to play GC imports that doesn't grant the use of bootlegs, and so far there's no Xbox imports I want.

There's also so many PS2 imports coming up I want, Dragon Quest V (cause we all know it's not coming over here), Nightmare of Druaga, Dragon Quest VIII, and probably more if I looked.

I'm surprised by your post. I have been a long time poster against pirating. I am in no way a surporter of activities; infact I've worked to reduce piracy here on my campus.

My post was only explaining to Dlogic that it is infact not "worthless to try and defeat copy protections nowadays." to some people. I was trying to illustrate that it is not as hard as he believes.

I'm not sure how the university could kick people out for owning pirated games, I've never heard of such a thing. I'm sure they could be prosecuted by law, but that doesn't mean the U could kick them out. Perhaps if students are running an illegal business out of a hall or storing files on school servers, but thats it.

So to summerize, I'm not your enemy and "Don't copy that Floppy".

Ah yeah... lord knows how hard it was to mod my GC by buying a Freeloader.... -ptth-

The mod went well and everything we tested plays. I tested PS2 US and Japanese original, PS1 US and Japanese original and copies.

The only strange thing is the "Playstation2" logo when you boot is garbled up.. I don't know if it's normal or not but everything works so I'm not at all worried about it.
