Infinium Labs gets BIG NAME...
so, who knows if this is gonna be a bust, like this guys other companies... ( I couldn't find the other thread, if someone wants to link to it...
but this is from gamedaily.com (Sarasota, Fla.) Infinium Labs, developer of a PC-based video game console that plays PC games over a broadband network, said on Tuesday that it has hired Kevin Bachus as its president and chief operating officer. Bachus was a founding member of the Xbox project team at Microsoft, who managed third-party relations and culled developers to create titles for the Xbox. Florida-based Infinium recently raised $15 million in financing that will enable it to bring its Phantom Game Console to market later this quarter. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040127/nytu049_1.html http://www.phantom.net |
I'm surprised he's able (or willing) to work for them. I would imagine Microsoft having a very thourough and strict Non-compete contract.
Edit: This is all from a press release directly from Infinium, so i'm inclined to beleive its 94% horseshit. |
and the other 6% bull

This is all part of an elaborate new reality TV show from Fox, isn't it?

I was really impressed to read that this morning in the Mercury News, the newspaper for Silicon Valley.
So it seems to be really true. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...ss/7814720.htm APPOINTMENT Xbox co-creator named Infinium leader Infinium Labs named Xbox co-creator Kevin Bachus president and chief operating officer. Bachus said he would tap his experience in launching Microsoft's video game console to help Infinium Labs launch its PC-based video game console and game downloading service. Bachus was previously vice president of publishing at Capital Entertainment Group, a game production company that shut its doors last fall. |
They're still just basing that on the press release from Infinium. So it's still not true. When i see a quote from Bachus i'll beleive it. Until then, its just more bull.

Wow, there's been a couple of threads about Infinium president this and Infinium financing that,
but there hasn't really been anything released by the company or anyone else that would cause anyone to believe this will ever happen. For god's sake, how can we expect a release "later this quarter" when the silly company is still working out it's corporate structure? silliness |
So Bachus put together a game console from PC parts once, and he is doing it again???? NO WAY! :D (Btw, I have an xbox :)

Kevin speaks a good game but I still don't think it'll happen. Reading between the lines, it looks like he came on board after his other company failed, saw what was going on with the current Phantom, and scrapped it. He talks about bringing in a new engineering team, even though it's supposed to ship this year. They're going to try to build a whole new Phantom, with realistic specs, in about 6 months. And thats not even mentioning the network infrastructure that will need to rival XBox Live if he plans on delivering full games over a broadband connection.

I think they're in for a rude awakening if they think 15 million is enough to do ANYTHING
