I'm 41 I play video games, my friends (mostly around my age) play video games, my brothers (mostly over 30) play video games, and so on. We're all pulling the average up :)

A lot of times when I see these surveys, they are based on purchases. Since oldies like me tend to have more money than the average 12 year old, that probably skews it too.

It's obvious just from looking at the majority of games being created and sold by the game companies, and also looking at gaming advertising.....the vast majority of it is aimed at teens and kids.

I'm 32 and have been playing video, arcade, and/or computer games for 24 years.

It was in a print magazine (EGM) a while back so hence no link. Unfortunately, I throw my mags away after reading them so I can't even give you an issue number.

You could try a search for rockstar, I remember reading an interview in which they were defending the violence in their games and said the avg. age is upper 20's.

Most older gamers tend to keep it very casual. They don't talk about games that much, and they dont' spend their time scouring the stores for stuff. They just identify a game they want, go in, and buy it. That's why you don't 'see' them around as much.

I don't know maybe we're "abnormal", older gamers but seems like many of us here are older, talk games a lot with friends and here and scour the web and stores for deals. :D

I would put my money on an average age of around 17--mostly teens and college kids canceling each other out with the average meeting somewhere in between depending on the relative number of each. Older gamers, including those on this board, are outliers. I have no proof, but it's really not that difficult to believe, is it?

I don't know about that. It seems like a lot of us here are older, like talking about games (obviously) and get a lot of enjoyment out of scouring stores (online included) for deals. Infact, sadly, that's often more fun than actually playing the games. :D

Maybe we're just not as loud and obnoxious as kids in stores, so aren't as noticable. We just slink in and out, like the night...maybe.

I'd tend to agree that we don't hang as long, while we may scour the store for bargains, we're generally not playing the demo systems and we know the games that we're interested in since we're hitting the web sites and reading the mags.

I'm 37, my 34 year old brother, and 43 year old brother-in-law all play video games. To counter balance that my 8 year old son, 4 year old son, and 10 year old nephew play video games. Average age: 22.6 (that's just the players in my immediate family)

No way its 27. It's gotta be lower. I'd say it's around 20-22. There are not nearly enough older people to bring the average up.

There are more of us old people than you think. We just blend in. One day when the time is right we will strike :D
