Smokin' Hot Deal : 50% off ALL PS2 games at Ulimate Electronics

This is shamelessly ripped from VGTalk:Ultimate Electronics B&M is having a 50%-off closeout on ALL PS2 games! No titles are excluded, so get $50 games like Final Fantasy X-2 for $24.99. There are also select PS2 accessories at 50% off as well. Ultimate Electronics has locations in Arizona, Minnesota, Texas, and in many other states.

I've never been to this store, but it looks like I'll be going tonight.

Someone also mentioned that the selection was bad and prices for PS2 greatest hits titles were $50 before discount.

Wow, let's all pile into the place for the $25 Greatest Hits...

No wonder they're having PS2 closeouts...

I went in there to look for TVs a long time ago and I asked why they didn't have Xbox games; the sales rep told me that in order to sell Sony TVs and other HT equipment they were REQUIRED (by Sony) to sell PS2 systems and games.

That sounds like BS, I've been to many home theater stores that don't carry PS2 but have plenty of Sony TV's and receivers.

I'm just relaying what I was told.. we all know sales reps are usually idiots though.

The same guy also told me Dead or Alive Volleyball was PS2 bound.. so yeah.

But the whole PS2 thing made sense simply because UE's PS2 section is crap and it just looks like it's there because it had to be. Doesn't mean it's true but that's what I thought.

I stopped by the local store Sunday when I heard about the sale not too much in stock but they were 50% off normal prices $49.95 new releases (Eyetoy, ESPN Basketball, DBZ Budoukai 2, etc.) $39.95 titles (Jak & Daxtar II, Silent Hill 3, etc.), and Greatest Hits $19.95.

Although it didn't include accessories like dance mats, memory cards, controllers, etc.

Just to update:
My store had an okay selection of games. Not tons of new ones, though. Most games reflected their MSRPs $49.99 or $39.99. There were lots of copies of Manhunt (and I was temped, but passed), a few Jak 2's for $20 (great deal, too bad I already got that one), all the new EA Sports games (but not the EA Big games).

I ended up with the Eyetoy and THUG for $25 each (since in my gaming world, it's all about ME! )

The Dance mat was also 50% off, but I don't think the few other peripherals there were on sale.

What he said is partially true, back when the PS1 was first being released, in order to get it into stores Sony was giving preferrential deals on their other stuff to stores that were also carrying the PS1. The stores that weren't carrying it had "trouble" getting some merchandise, like short or extremely late shipments. I know for a fact that this is why Sears started carrying the PS1 after starting to phase out video games, I had one of the regional managers personally tell me that. And I'm assuming that this is why Circuit City started carrying video games, hell for at least a few years it was the only video game system they carried. I'm guessing once they got a foothold in that they changed this practice, but at one point it did exist. That reason and that reason alone is why I never bought a PS1 or a PS2. I've played them at friends' houses and enjoyed them, but they weren't getting my money.

I picked up Nascar thunder '04 for 25, GTA 2 pack for 20, and I'm going back to get Tiger Woods 2004 and Manhunt for 25 each today.

I will then have 6 games on my shelf that have not been unwrapped. But I just can't pass up this deal.

Picked up Silent Hill 3 for $19.99, good deal considering I was about to pay $30 for a used copy just last week.
