any stores take new games without reciept?

I got a shrinkwarpped new copy of Soul Calibur 2 that I dont want. Do you guys know any stores that will exchange it for another game without a reciept. I tried Gamestop and Toys R Us to no luck.

You're in luck. Virgin MegaStore (Union Square or Times Square) will take it. They will give you $50 (plus tax) in store credit for it. The manager at Times Square told me that as long as they can sell the item, they'll accept the return whether it's theirs or not.

Wait. Most stores will have more relaxed return policies in the month of January for returns of Christmas gifts. Certainly WalMart does.

If you must try before then, WalMart is probably your best bet.

notalotta 11-26-03 11:28 PM

Try Wal-Mart. I once returned a shrinkwrapped Devil May Cry 2. I told them I received it as a gift and got the then full price. But YMMV because I had to go to two stores before they took it back.

nickdawgy 11-26-03 11:49 PM

Wal-Mart is always the best bet. You have a certain amount of times you can do it I think (like 3?) in a year. Also, Best Buy will sometimes do it, but a huge YMMV there.

There are no Wal-Marts in NYC. I stand by my suggestion above.

Just take it back where you bought it from. Simple as that.

Jtnguyen12 11-27-03 01:42 AM

Did you try Target or Best buy ??

JuicyJ 11-27-03 01:54 AM

I just returned a unopened Rainbow Six 3 to Target and got $50+tax.

Just take it back where you shoplifted it from. Simple as that.
Hehehe ... just kidding. I couldn't resist.

Joking aside, I can certainly see how shoplifters would you the Christmas season to their advantage. It's not too hard to boost video games and DVDs. At $50 bucks a pop, that's a lot of crank that could be bought.

man, i was at union sq yesterday, didnt think about going to virgin. and for you info, i got the game as part of toys r us's buy 2 get 1 free deal a while back, but i did it through amazon.com because i was away at collage and there were no toysrus near me. thanks for the suggestions, i'll try virgin tomorrow and if they dont, i'll wait till i go back to school and try at the wal-mart there.

fumanstan 12-01-03 01:06 PM

Target should let you exchange the game for another

Ian H. 12-01-03 10:49 PM

I was in the same situation and I tried to return a game to Best Buy with no luck. They said they will give store credit if you don't have a receipt on the day after Christmas only.
Somehow I got Toys R' Us to exchange the 2 games I didn't want (from the 3 for 2 deal) for GTA and True Crime. All's well that ends well.

OtherAdam 12-01-03 11:03 PM

I traded it at Virgin for FFX-2 with no problems.

Ohh, I see. You are trying to stiff some store for the game you got free.

That makes sense. It is like shoplifting legally!

Goldberg74 12-02-03 10:28 AM

Walmart actually tracks your returns by your drivers license number. They do not allow more than 2 returns w/o a receipt in a 6 month period.

Just an FYI.

Michael Corvin 12-02-03 10:55 AM

Just sell it on half.com. You can easily get around $40 for a relatively new game like that. legally.

And like mentioned above, it was free. Sounds kinda shady returning it for $50.

illennium 12-02-03 11:55 AM

Just so you know, there's no law against this. It's not fraud or misrepresentation. It's up to individual store owners to set return policies. It is their right to accept or refuse returns. People like to insert their views on how the law should work in place of how it actually does.

If you wait till after christmas, compusa will take it back and give you store credit (in the form of a gift card)
This last for 2 weeks starting the day after christmas. It needs to be a A01 (in stock item) and still sealed and they will return it no problem
