A Few Online Gaming Questions...

1. Does anyone know how I can test my XBOX live connection to see if it's ok speed wise? I had always assumed I had a kick connection because I have cable internet but "Crimson Skies" is making me wonder.

2. How much longer should I hold out on getting PSX2's network add on unit? Does anyone know a site where I can get some reviews specifically on PSX2's network and the games?

Just goto some of the test sites and test your speed.

toast.net or dslreports.com

speeds should be about the same thru Xbox

Giantrobo, are you asking about the PS2's Network Adaptor? It works great and is an incredibly easy install. The enitre online system is publisher-based, no central like Live so there can be a lot of difference from game to game. Still it's the only way to play EA games online and overall it works pretty well. And of course, once you buy the NA, there's no subscription fee, which is nice.
Obviously, the biggest Online game now is the two SOCOM games. They have a huge number of players every night and the server works pretty well. Gran Tourismo 4 will be out next year and will be a huge online game as well. Since you already have the set-up for the Xbox, I think it's worth the $40 absolutely.

I did and I'm really fast according to dslreports.com. But does that mean Online gaming will be good? ONe day while on XBOX live a guy told me I had bad connection and that I should get DSL because it's better for online gaming. I think he was just talking about that one time but it made me paranoid about my connection in general.

Is that true?

So for now there's just SOCOM and sports games huh?

No. Amplitude is a really fun rhythm game that works suprisingly well online. THUG is only online on the PS2 and also has that neat face-mapping feature. Almost all the new EA games are online on the PS2 only, so you can play racing games like NFS Underground or SSX 3, Multiplayer deathmatches in MOH Rising Sun and two-player quests in LOTR:ROTK on the PS2 exclusively.

There's a fairly complete list of games and other useful information here.
