GBA games questions
So I am probably going to get a GBA for a friend (she wants the GBA not the SP) and she wants Super Mario Advance 4, DK Country, and Super Mario Advance 2 I believe. Or is it 3? Anyhow, my question is this:
I guess Best Buy and Circuit City are having deals on Mario Advance 4 ($24 or $26 or something), and there is an e-reader bundle at CC for $64. I can use BB $5 off coupons for each one, and I also have $15 in reward zone gift certs. So should I go ahead and buy now (this is for Christmas btw) or do you think the sales will get better? I have never bought a GBA or any games, so I have no idea about the prices, and how often they go on sale. Sorry to sound like such a n00b, but I just want a good deal, hehe. Also, how much do the cables that hook GBA up to a Gamecube go for? Any help and advice is appreciated. :) |
Also, I just figured out that one of the stores are having a sale soon where the GBA is $39, and $54 with Mario Advance bundle. I think it was Target, not sure. Not even sure if the deal is true, a friend just told me. Anyhow, would it be better to get the GBA for $39 or for $54 with the e-reader? I would have to buy Mario Advance 4 and the e-reader anyhow.

anyone have any info for me?

well, for me, i found that games should cost about $25 (less $5 coupons at bestbuy).
i never got the gb advance b/c i didn't like the non-lit screen. the gba SP is definitely the way to go even at $60 more. no idea about sales although, the nintendo.com's magazine, etc bundles are decent - you get a $10 coupon for a gameboy. |
GBA SP bundle w/ Super Mario Adv. 4 + Extra for $99.99 (Black FRIDAY)
Circuit City GBASP $99.99 with free Mario Super Circuit and Earbuds |
where, jt... you left out that part

I think he's referring to the gold bundle at TRU.
|
So the deals were true....hmmm ok, I had better wait until Black Friday then. Or maybe just PM if I can.
As for the SP, she doesn't like it, so it's not up to me. She likes the regular GBA :D |
Does she say why? Does she understand the differences between the two? The SP is vastly superior in many ways.

Originally posted by young fyi, it looks like the deals above are for the SP, not the GBA... |
i heard about the gold bundle deal at TRU, is is it a special gold edition of the SP? ANyone know? also i saw it soomewhere which says it's 89.99 on black friday

Nick, have her check out the 2 side-by-side. I have large hands and the SP is very comfortable. More importantly, it is very hard to see the GBA screen in anything but direct bright light (in direct sun or right under a lamp). The SP looks good and is playable in any light. Also, none of the add-on lights are very good, but they are bulky and make the larger GBA even less convenient/portable.
At worst you could get those soft handles that snap onto the SP and fit into your palm. No way would I recommend the GBA over an SP (or refrain from trying to convince someone that the SP is the way to go!). |
I'd have to agree with everyone else about the differances between the two. Last week I bought the normal GBA w/ free e-reader and this week I took it back and picked up the black SP instead because trying to play on that machine was so damn hard. You had to twist yourself into the most uncomfortable positions to try to see the screen and reduce glare enough to be able to see what was going on in the game.

Since no one mentioned this yet. I'd imagine that GBA/GC link cables are probably in the $10-$15 range. I could be wrong but that sounds aboot right.

Wow, are the differences that major? So would Best Buy have both systems ready to try out? I know she tried the SP at Target, but I don't remember where she tried the GBA. In fact, maybe she just assumes the GBA is easier because it's bigger?
The only bummer thing is she didn't need the e-reader and was going to give it to me, so if I got the SP not only would I be spending an extra $30, but I'd be out an e-reader as well. I guess I should just get the GBA and then let her play around with it for a few days. If/when she decides it sucks, we can always exchange it for an SP, right? Of course, I am already dreading the return lines around Christmas :D |

I don't know if it's going to be cheaper on Black Friday or not, but our TRU has already been selling the gold SP with SMA4 for a week or so. I bought one, but can't open it until Xmas. :(

It's $99.99 and yes, it's a gold SP. But, whoops, just found out that we weren't supposed to sell it until Black Friday. Which is weird because time-sensitive product is usually in a heavily-marked box when we get it. "DO NOT DISPLAY UNTIL NOV 28" or something like that. Ah well. How were we supposed to know? :)

Shame on you :D |
do you know if we can buy the gold sp and exchange it later for another color?
