NICE! I've been wondering when this would be coming. I see a GB player in my future as well.. :)

PixyJunket 11-12-03 08:04 PM

Argh.. I've yet to beat Metroid Fusion in under 2 hours with 100% items.. better start bringing it to work I guess.

darqleo 11-12-03 10:41 PM

Nice! I haven't played my GBA SP since the last Castlevania game that came out for it. This will give me a reason to use it again.

PixyJunket 11-13-03 07:44 AM

Still wondering if it's a remake of original Metroid or just another adventure on Zebes.

I'd really love it if they included the original Metroid hidden on the game with the NES emulation they have available from the e-Cards and Animal Crossing.. I'd love to be able to practice my speed runs at work, I think the last time I tried I could get every item and finish it in just about 70 minutes.. if I could shave off 10 minutes I'd be able to get the best ending with 100%.

I still say Fusion is my favorite GBA game, but I still have a lot of problems with it as a Metroid game. I'm hoping beyond hope that these are fixed for Zero Mission. First and foremost the linear nature has to go, then they need to let the gameplay tell the story and not forcefeed it to you like some shitty RPG. Once those two things are fixed, all is well!

balancer 11-13-03 09:40 AM

Pixyjunket, Fusion is the best GBA game so far (IMO), and you are right about the problems that it had. If it wasn't for some of the brutal bosses, I would play it over again. ;) Anyway, lets' hope for some less linear play in Zero, and more expansive envrionments.

PixyJunket 11-13-03 10:20 AM

Oh yes.. Metroid Fusion is my favorite GBA game, no dobut. I have played all the way through it about 8 times now. My quickest time is 1:45, quickest with 100% items is 3:40. I loved the fact that some of the bosses were brutal.

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention.. I hope the music is treated better this time around. The music in Fusion was pretty medicore and forgettable. I bought the soundtrack to Metroid Prime, and it came in a 2 disc set with the Fusion soundtrack, so I got to listen to it on a good sound system (not the GBA speaker) and it was still really poor.

I hope they study Super Metroid really well for this game. Sure, there was a point A to point B path in Super Metroid; but as you got better at the game you could find shorcuts, find little hidden ways to get certain items early in the game, thus altering the main path of the game. The world of Zebes in Super Metroid is so PERFECTLY laid out in every aspect, I am still amazed to this day at the brilliance of the games level design.

One thing I found a bit annoying with Fusion when I first played was that the map would let you know there was a hidden item in a room. Of course, when I beat the game the first time with only about 55% items I freaked out.. they countered that by adding some REALLY well hidden areas in the game. I also like the fact that after you beat the game once, it would let you know if you've collected all the items in a certain area. This eliminated SOME frustration of figuring out where the last 2 items were when you got that far (and refuse to be a wimp and look it up online). I also liked the simple missle controls. Instead of scrolling through weapons, simply holding R while firing used missles. This of course was also counted by the fact that because of this, super missles were reduced to an upgrade. Minor gripe, but in Super Metroid the Super Missle made a BIG difference, and the limited amount you could use added to that.

Heh, can't you tell I'm excited for this? :D

Of course, if it IS a remake of the first Metroid, they better let you play through without the suit this time (which to the uneducated was NOT initiated by JUSTIN BAILEY code.. that was just a code that happened to have that unlocked already).

Mmm.. Metroid (goes to listen to "Relics of the Chozo" again).

I totally agree with you Pixy. It was nice to have something different but lets bring on Metroid Zero now!!!!

Hear anything about Metroid Prime 2?

Nothing yet.. it should still be on track for a 2004 release. I was hoping for another simultaneous release but that's probably not going to happen with Zero coming out so soon. Of course, the minute news leaks out I'll be happily posting about it and sharing out any files.

Maybe the connectivity feature with MZ and MP2 will give us Super Metroid :eyebrow:

:spooge: (even though I have 2 copies of it)..

Actually if it unlocked Super Metroid or even original Metroid on GBA I'd be VERY HAPPY.

But I don't think we'll see quite a simple link feature this time. Retro said they did what they did with Fusion/Prime because the request to use the link feautre came very late in thier production and it was the best they could do with little time.

Not particularly looking forward to Metroid Zero Mission. Sure it's a Metroid game, and even if it's an old one it's being totally redone, but something about it seems off. Gunpei Yokoi is the only person in my opinion that has any business making a Metroid game. I'll buy it, and i'll probably get hours of enjoyment out of it, but it's not going to be the next Super Metroid.

PixyJunket 11-13-03 04:48 PM

Hate to break your elitest bubble (I'm lying, I don't mind it actually) but Gunpei Yokoi was only responsible for Metroid and Metroid II..

balancer 11-13-03 04:58 PM

Superboy, I can't understand that thinking, even if you weren't so misinformed. Something about it seems off? What the 3 screenshots that exist? You really need to move on...

darqleo 11-13-03 07:11 PM

I don't know who this Gunpei Yokoi character is, but Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion were in my top fave games of the last couple of years, with or without his help. Metroid is back and more powerful than you can imagine!

PixyJunket 11-13-03 07:28 PM

Gunpei Yokoi created the Game & Watch games, Metroid & Kid Icarus, the Gameboy and many of it's first gen games. He died in 1997 in a car accident, and was later given a Lifetime Achivement award in Japan, which was present to his family by Yuki Naka (creator of Sonic the Hedgehog).

There is a dedication to him in the credits of Metroid Prime, this final touch to a perfect game almost brought a tear to my eye, it shows just how much Retro Studios loves Metroid.

From Nintendo: "Based loosely on the original NES maps, Metroid: Zero Mission includes all of the weapons and environments that made the original a huge hit, and also provides a totally new experience for the series' many fans by adding new enhancements and delving deeper into aspects of the story that haven't been told."

I'm getting so into a Metroid mood.. I need to replay Prime :)

PixyJunket 11-14-03 11:27 AM

For real. I thoght my 8:00 100% complete time on Hard Mode was pretty good. Then I saw some jerk online who did a 100% run on Normal in 1:37. I almost cried. I think I'll give it another go Thanksgiving break, maybe I can get 6:00 or 7:00.

balancer 11-14-03 11:35 AM

I think I'll play it on hard mode for the first time. I just can't imagine some of those boss-bastards though... have I mentioned how I hate bosses? ;)

PixyJunket 11-14-03 11:41 AM

Oh. You're going to LOVE the bosses on hard mode, espically Omega Pirate (#$@*#$@).. I can kill that guy in like 60 seconds on normal mode. I'm lucky if I don't die in hard mode.

I think when I beat Metroid Prime (the boss, not the game) on hard mode, the whole battle took like half an hour. It filled me with warm gaming goodness.

That CAN'T be possible! It just can't.
