Halo "Deluxe" Edition (XBL) for Xbox Anniversary?!? Could be...
I can't remember where I first read this, and I can't seem to track down the original information, but a friend of mine at work alerted me to the following article:
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=53739
It's interesting Bungie said there would be no benefit to secretly release such a title, but I remember in 2001 Square did it with Final Fantasy X - releasing it just days before Christmas when it wasn't supposed to be released for another month. But that was just a localization job, Halo 2 is a completely new production.
Now I can't remember where I read this, but it pointed to an article at Penny Arcade which stated they had confirmed with Microsoft employees Halo 2 would not be released this holiday season, but that it did not rule out anything special Microsoft would do for the Xbox anniversary.
The article I referenced came out today, so this news is still fairly fresh, which is why I haven't heard anything about it before today. Any thoughts?

Speculation over a major announcement which Microsoft has pledged to make on November 15th, the second anniversary of the Xbox launch date, points to the launch of a new version of Halo with Xbox Live support.
A number of different rumours have circulated regarding the announcement, including the rather unlikely possibility that the launch of Halo 2 - currently scheduled for 2004 - might actually be pulled forward to Christmas.
However, a member of the Bungie development team moved to quash such rumours, stating that "I can confirm with absolute certainty that Halo 2 is NOT coming out in 2003," going on to question what "possible benefit" there would be in a launch shrouded in such secrecy.
What does seem entirely possible, however, is another rumour circulating about the announcement - namely that on November 15th Microsoft will roll out a new version of Halo, branded as Halo Deluxe Edition, which will feature online multiplayer capabilities over Xbox Live for the first time.
This speculation gains credibility from the appearance of a Prima Official Strategy Guide for Halo Deluxe Edition on the publishing company's website, with a launch date of December 2003 - an embarrassing mistake by Prima if they turn out to have blown Microsoft's surprise, but surely a pointer that MS has something Halo-related in the works.

I'll plead ignorance in the case of Final Fantasy X, but how would this logistically be possible? Titles don't just show up at retailers; they have to place orders, and for that to happen, there has to be considerable advance notice to a large number of people. If this were happening, wouldn't something more definitive have leaked out by now?

I thought in all the Halo rumor squashing from Bungie there was a statement saying they were never working on a online version of Halo (IIRC calling it Halo 1.5 then).

Doubtful, but that might explain why there's word on orders from the stores.

There's an extremely strong possibility that there's nothing at all, and that a group of people who really want there to be an XBox Live enabled Halo have interpreted this strategy guide in such a way to convince themselves and others that their dream is coming to fruition.

But if I had to bet, I'd say it's just that Halo is now a Platinum Hit, with the possible addition of downloadable maps.
But even that would convince me to buy a copy for my 2nd Xbox.

Well I don't think it will be any downloadable content for Halo because Halo has no Xbox Live support built into it.
I read somewhere that the new deluxe edition Prima guide is just the same old Halo guide with an added DVD preview of Halo 2.
I guess we will know the truth soon enough.

The word on the grapevine is that the Proof "Halo Deluxe Guide" Is just the Halo PC guide.
The internet bringeth, the internet taketh away.
