Xbox as DVD player questions
1) Should I be concerned about using my Xbox as my primary DVD player? (I moved it to my entertaiment center in order to save space). Has anyone ever had any issues with using the Xbox as a Dvd player in addition to using it as a console.
2) Can I get DTS sound out of the Xbox for movies with a DTS soundtrack?
3) Is the offical MS remote the only one available, or are their other remotes out there?

NOt sure about DTS but I have no complaints about it as a DVD player. And you need the official remote since that is what pays the DVD consortium licensing fees. The remote comes with a thingie that you plug into a controller port. It's not like it's a plain IR remote.

It will add wear and tear to the Xbox so that might be a concern. However, it is designed to be a DVD player so I see no reason not to use it that way.
2) Yes it will output a DTS signal to your receiver.
3) You have to buy the official MS remote to activate the DVD playback feature. After that any universal remote can be used with the IR receiver just use the setting for a RCA brand remote. The problem is some of the features can only be activated with an on screen menu (like changing audio tracks) and you will probably need the official Xbox remote to pop up that onscreen menu.

1. Well, of course it will wear out faster as you're running the drive more. But I'd still be surprised if it didn't last a few years.
And quality is a minor concern. DVDs look pretty good on it (much better than the PS2) but not as good as with my stand alone players (a sony progressive scan unit, and a 4 year old toshiba 2109).
