So how about that Midway Arcade Treasures?

Boy - how did THIS one slip under my radar? This is a pretty solid line up of games, for a song!

*SPY HUNTER (great - IF they get the controls to work right)
*DEFENDER
*DEFENDER II
*GAUNTLET (well, there goes hours of my life shot to hell)
*PAPERBOY
*RAMPAGE
*ROBOTRON 2084
*SMASH TV
*JOUST
*JOUST 2
*BUBBLES
*SINISTAR
*RAMPART
*ROADBLASTERS
*SPLAT!
*BLASTER
*VINDICATORS
*SATAN'S HOLLOW (Yessss! Da Bomb!)
*MARBLE MADNESS (wonder how this will work w/o the trackball)
*SUPER SPRINT
*TOOBIN'
*KLAX
-and of course-
*720

(My bad, how could I overlook that classic!)

22 games for 20 bucks? Hell - I used to drop that in the arcade in one week!

PixyJunket 10-28-03 01:04 PM

There's a thread about this already.. like you, I'm too lazy to do a search.

I'm sure Marble Madness will do fine with analog.. hell I used to play the poo out of it on the NES and that was just a D-Pad.

I HUNGER COAWRD!!

I read somewhere, I think Game Informer, or maybe somewhere online, that for some reason, Marble Madness is INSANELY easy with the analog, the guy mentioned getting to the 4th level with ease and never losing a life. I'll see if I can find the article.

Really? I did a search for "midway arcade", and came up with a couple of hits where it was mentioned, but no dedicated thread.

The one thing the PS1 arcade compliations always had over the versions on other systems (including PS2), were pure emulation. For example on Pac-Man on Namco Museum Vol. 1 for the PlayStation, you can set it up where you can turn the TV sideways to make it just like the vertical arcade monitor, plus there is never an overlay saying "Press X to start" or whatever. None of the systems other than PS1 ever had the option to simulate the vertical arcade screen, on games which were vertical in arcades, which is why, in my opinion, the PS1 collections are the best. I wonder if I can turn my TV sideways to play any games on this collection, like I could on the PS1 versions of Centipede, Millipede, etc. I can't remember if any games on this collection had vertical arcade monitors though.

Can the PC or Xbox versions of MAME be set up to work with a vertical or sideways monitor? I never could figure out how to set it up. I just want the stuff to be almost EXACTLY the way they were in the arcade, down to having to puch a button to simulate adding a coin.

What is the release date for this? I was thinking it was in October but haven't found it anywhere.

Yeah, it's really too bad that it slipped off the radar.

You thought wrong, it comes out in November. Looks like they're doing some weird staggered release for the three systems (the PS2 version comes out on 11/17, the Xbox version on 11/26, and the GC version on 12/1).

"Midway Reports losses" " Gamecube Versions of Spy Hunter 2 and Midway Arcade Treasures will not be released this year"
http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/act...s_6077622.html

Which means they are cancelled for that platform more than likely. Shame to since I was gonna buy M.A.T. for my GC, saves me $15 though. I do believe they canceled the GC version of "The Suffering" as well since it's not a "leading platform".

http://cube.ign.com/articles/456/456889p1.html

When asked why the title was cancelled for Nintendo's console, Midway responded that they "want to concentrate on the leading platforms in the marketplace when it comes to launching original product. We are still publishing titles like Blitz and Hitz for the Nintendo GameCube, but for The Suffering we are concentrating on the Sony PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox."

DaveNinja 10-31-03 10:25 AM

crap, i wanted this for the GC, mainly just to use the wavebirds and the fact that i havent got an xbox yet

dek 10-31-03 11:25 AM

I will trade you my xbox for your Sinistar Cockpit :D
