Microsoft XBOX Wireless Adapter
 

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new wireless adapter that Microsoft has come out with that works with the XBOX and could share their experiences?

I'd be inclined to hear reviews as well - and I'm wondering if it would work for PS2 as well (though I doubt it).

I don't see this as being anything more than a wireless ethernet bridge, with a Microsoft logo slapped on it. You could probably find a Linksys, D-Link, etc. wireless bridge for much cheaper (price depends on if you want 802.11b or g).

I agree with Trigun. So if that's the case you should be able to use it for your PS2 just fine.

OK, can someone please educate me. I'm fixing to move pretty soon. I need my xbox/ps2 to go wireless. I've got am SMC wireless router that will be hooked to my DSL.

What do I need to buy for the xbox/ps2? Do I need another wireless router, a bridge, or an access point? or is a bridge and access point the same thing? I plan to hook up a switch to the xbox and ps2 then the wireless component. Thanks...

I thought this thing was supposed to have some kind of interface to the Xbox dashboard as well as enable FTP between the X-Box and PCs, etc.

I agree that any wireless bridge/access point should do the same. Linksys, and a few others have their own products that are also directed at the consoles specifically but again I'd think any of the wireless access points if configured properly would work.

I believe you would need to tie a wireless ethernet bridge (the Microsoft device, or a similar one from another manufacturer), the PS2, and the Xbox into a switch. The wireless ethernet bridge will allow your devices to talk with your router.

I guess you could buy 2 bridges (one for XBox, one for PS2), but that would be a bit more expensive.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that the MS product is only a device to plug into the xbox, and you would still require a wireless router from your modem.
If that is truly the case, there's no way in hell it's worth the MSRP of $139.99

Right, the MS device is just a bridge that let's a device without built in wireless capability get onto the wireless network. You can find devices that do the exact same thing for half the price at Fry's or Best Buy (if you get an 11 Mbps bridge). 54 Mbps bridges cost about $100.

Also, I doubt there's anything special about the MS device that would prevent you from using it with a Tivo, PS2, etc.

It's the D-Link DWL-900AP+. It's mainly a wireless access point, but has some other modes.. point to point bridge, point to multipoint bridge, wireless client, or repeater.

I just set it as wireless client, set it to my wireless network, connect it to my xbox via crossover cable, and BAM. Working flawlessly.

Couldn't you just buy a switch and hook up the Xbox and PS2 to one bridge? (kinda like a 2-way to 1 way adapter)

I've been looking at bridges for my Xbox, too. I'd say go for the 802.11g b/c 802.11b doesn't have much future growth potential when you want to start streaming video. Also, other ubiquitous 802.11b networks will degrade your 802.11b net speed. Probably good enough for current XBL games. I emphasize current...

Khai - I have the same device 900AP+ - what do you use for your router for it to work in client mode?

I am having some problems with that :(

I use the DLink DI-713P wireless router. DLink's site says it doesn't work with the 900AP+ but it does.

You're using a crossover cable to connect the 900AP+ to the PC/XBOX, yes?

I saw the Microsoft adapter last week at Best Buy for $99. I go there to buy it today and now it is $129.99. Has anyone seen it anywhere for $99?

I thought it was CircuitCity that had it for $99.99 last week, but perhaps I could be mistaken.
