I can't decide: Should I buy an E-Reader?

I have a Gamecube. I have a GBA. I have the Link cable. I have animal crossing (just started)

Should i buy an E-reader? Is it worth it? Help! :)

Breakfast with Girls 10-20-03 09:05 PM

Are you buying Super Mario 3 GBA?

PixyJunket 10-20-03 09:19 PM

It's iffy for Animal Crossing, unless you have the 2 NES game cards (then YES!!).. but keep in mind that Mario 3 and F-Zero both have e-card abilities that add features to the game that aren't on the game, opening possibilites for endless amounts of levels and tracks (if done right).

Pick one up used for $20 or so and you're good to go. :)

Outlaw 10-20-03 09:59 PM

$9.99 at the corporate store version Blockbuster Video (if you can find one), I picked one up myself.

ClarkKentKY 10-20-03 10:31 PM

I found one for 14.99 with a little work. The question is whether it's worth that.

Not getting super mario 4 or FZero, i have both of those on SNES (which i keep plugged in and still play) My main reason to get it would be animal crossing and NES games.

PixyJunket 10-20-03 10:35 PM

Yes, but F-Zero 2 is an original GBA game.. just like the first F-Zero was original. Oops guess I should've added the 2 to it in the first post.

ClarkKentKY 10-20-03 11:35 PM

I guess i should explain: I'm not that invested in my GBA. Never cared for it. It was basically put away for good until my gamecube came around. Now i view the GBA just as a tool of the gamecube.

Given that context, is the Ereader worth it?

I guess i'm talking myself out of it.

GatorDeb 10-20-03 11:43 PM

For $14 DEFINITELY. I got it for $20 from a member here who got it for $10 at BlockBuster. I was going to buy it at whatever price when SMB3 came out. Then again I can't imagine life w/out my GBASP :) (I work overnight at a call center and get to pay ~5 hours a day... I really can't imagine not having a GBASP... I dread the day I switch jobs and can't play GBASP at work :()

Outlaw, do you know if your BB still has any more e-readers?

Pixy, is the Fzero game out yet?

PixyJunket 10-21-03 07:56 AM

No.. it's the upcoming F-Zero game. They've stated it will use cards like Mario 3 in which new cars and tracks can be added to the game for as many cards as they wish to make. No release date yet but sometime 2004.

I'll check this weekend when I go by there. They had 6 last time I went. Well, 5 after I got one :).

Outlaw -

I want one too... do you think you can hook me up? Thanks in advance!

:)

funkyryno 10-23-03 12:23 AM

No. Don't bother.

evenflow 10-23-03 12:25 AM

No. Don't bother with that bullshit.

 I'd be inclined to agree, but the Mario 3 stuff sounds kind of cool.

Josh H 10-23-03 04:52 PM

I'd say no. Some stuff like the Mario 3 levels are cool, but it's just too much of hassle. It's just a gimmick for Nintendo (as much as I love them) to get you to buy more of their hardware. They should have just put the new levels in the game to be unlocked by accomplishing certain things.

Or better yet they should get off their asses and make a new GBA mario game.

ClarkKentKY 10-23-03 11:51 PM

I think i'm going to pass then. Deb was really the only one who seemed all-for-it, but i just can't see myself getting into my gameboy that much.

Plus i didn't know you have to swipe 18 cards 24 times to get a game going.

i-bystander 10-24-03 01:21 AM

Question for those that do have E-Readers... what do you guys use it for? If Pixy says it's iffy for AC (and that's perhaps the main reason I'm wanting to get one), then should I still pursue it?

PixyJunket 10-24-03 08:03 AM

Well i-bystander.. the classic NES cards are really cool, once you get passed having to sacn 10 cards.. I've used it a lot for Animal Crossing, and I've gotten some really cool items from the cards. I've used it on Pokemon to fight new trainers and get an Eon Ticket.. I'll be using it for Mario 3, and probably F-Zero 2 when it comes out. The Game & Watch Cards come out in November and they will only need 2-4 swipes, and that's going to be really cool!! Plus there's some Pokemon cards coming out which might re-spark some interest in that game for me.. I'm overall happy with it because I'm able to use it for multiple things. I am sure Nintendo will have plenty more to do with it in the future, I think it's a great device that has plenty of potential.

Dragon Fly 10-24-03 11:01 AM

Silly question about the e-reader. I only have the GBA Player for the GameCube, can I use it just like that? Or do I have to have a GBA to "link up" with. Every diagram I have seen shows needing 2 GBA's to use the damn thing.

PixyJunket 10-24-03 11:05 AM

Depends on what cards you want to use. To transfer something from a card to a game like the Pokemon or Mario 3 cards, yes you do need 2 GBAs.

If you only have the GBA Player you'll be limited to playing the classic NES games and Game & Watch games.

Ah crap, damn Nintendo. Well, there goes that idea!

Outlaw 10-29-03 12:00 AM

Sorry folks, I checked over the weekend and they were all gone :(. Actually I asked the guy when they sold them and he said they got cleaned out weeks ago, I guess word got around.

edytwinky 10-29-03 02:10 AM

I have an e-reader and I did use it originally for Animal Crossing but since then never. Granted I could play games like DOnkey Kong and Excitebike, the problem is I already have those games on my original NES ready to play whenever. Unless you can get it really really really cheap, then i'd pass.

BeckysBoy 10-29-03 04:35 PM

Animal Crossing e-cards

I just found a bunch of AC Series 2 and 3 and a couple packs of series 1 on clearance at WalMart and Best Buy for .99. I bought about 15. I don't have an e-Reader but I played the hell out of AC last year and might fire it up again if I get an e-Reader. In any case, they're kind of neat on their own and even if I never got an e-Reader I could still enter the codes for stuff, right?

I'm also interested in getting the G&W cards.

Shoot. Where's the cheapest place to get an e-Reader?
