2D fighter and PC don't mix, although I think they ported Street Fighter 2 Turbo to the PC several years ago.

HL2 is the current Doom like FPS.. then again you shouldn't have any problems finding it mr. BT man.

I would suggest Battlefield 1942 and it's Mod Desert Combat. I can't play enough of it.

A) Tron 2.0, Enemy Territory (free for download at fileplanet), Medal of Honor... upcoming - Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Call of Duty, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

B) Yeah - there are... they're all basically the same. Check gamerankings.com for the best one.

C) No... One Must Fall and ports of Mortal Kombat is about all there is really... you would have to go to mame for good arcade fighters.

D) Mafia is a must have game. Also - if you like GTA3, pick that up for the PC. Ghost Master is fun. Freelancer is good. Rise of Nations is also good.

a) Probably Tron 2.0, as far as graphics and stuff. Jedi Academy, too. Max Payne 2 is coming out in a couple weeks, you should look out for that one. Also try Splinter Cell if you have a nice PC, because that's supposed to have graphics even better than the XBox version. And of course Halo.

b) Can't help you there

c) Yeah there haven't been a lot of fighting. Actually IGN pulls up NONE when I filter their games list. But there are a couple older titles, like the SF series which was ported to the PC eons ago. And also try the bargain bin or Ebay for the older SEGA fighters. I know VF2 and Last Bronx were both ported to the PC.

d) Yeah, there are a couple of newer titles which will really show off a great system. Homeworld 2 comes to mind, as does Command and Conquer: Generals and Warcraft III. Also watch out for Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring, a RTS by the makers of Battle Realms (also a great game). For some reason it's been the RTS titles pushing the boundaries of PC technology, next year it will definitely be the year of the FPS.

But don't forget the not-so-recent classics which still deliver some technological punch, like NOLF2, which will still impress at sometimes one third of the price.

Splinter Cell is a pretty game, but get Hitman 2, because it's pretty and its idea of stealth goes beyond "travel down one incredibly constrained path without people seeing you." Plus if you want, you can just go on a killing spree and still accomplish the mission. Hooray for versatile gameplay!

And I don't think everyone would agree with you about Halo on PC.

If you're going to get Half-Life, which you should, play it before you play Deus Ex. I played them in the reverse order, and was underwhelmed by Half-Life. My current FPS (Doom-like) champ is Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and its expansions, although the Tron 2.0 demo was pretty awesome, and convinced me to pick up the game sometime in the future.

If you like tactical games, find a copy of the older game X-Com: Ufo Defense. If you like space sims and Star Wars, get the X-Wing/Tie Fighter/X-Wing Alliance series and a gamepad/joystick. If you like the idea of controlling a team of super-heros, get Freedom Force. You can find that last set of games for really cheap.

Slightly off-topic, but:
Have you gotten X-Com to work on XP or 2000 systems? Do you just use the system compatibility function?

Also. What do you know about the new version, UFO Aftermath?

It's an entirely different game done by an entirely different company. It has the same general concept, but it's not the "new version" of X-Com. I've heard mixed reviews on it.

If you're into military games check Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis . It's got really diverse game play, two expansions called Resistance and Red Hammer, and there's a ton of addons for it all over the internet. Best of all you can find it really cheap on Ebay and in the bargain bin at some stores.
