FALLOUT Brotherhood of steel, What happened?

Did anyone see this trailer?

http://www.gametrailers.com/vault-f.html

I was a fan of the first two games, really dug the retro atomic tone to it, but now it looks like some mtv vj raped it. What happened?

Did the company get bought? New owners?

It looks like shit.

Tigger 10-01-03 11:24 AM

The company, Interplay. has no new IP to offer so they re-hash old stuff to try and make something out of nothing. To me this is a complete waste. Fallout was all about RTS and serious strategy, comedy and some moments of down right Arnold-type weaponry and effects. This POS is just one more of their great titles they can canibalize. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a new Descent title on a console.

What you say? Fallout was turn-based, yo.

There are strong indicators that Fallout 3 is coming to PC down the road.

Incidentally, the latest game from Tim Cain (lead programmer on Fallout) has just hit store shelves: Temple of Elemental Evil.

jrobinson 10-01-03 11:30 AM

I don't know if any one play Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel (PC), but that game really really blew... I think this console is gonna be more or less the same...

No, this is very different than Fallout Tactics. This is basically Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance in the Fallout setting (same engine).

With a dash of spears and limpbizkit

I'd rather they just make a fallout three based on the first 2 and just set it someplace else with new cinematics then this crap. This is so freaking horrible. It looks like a simpsons parady.

All signs point to this being in development by Black Isle. The current codename is "Van Buren."

A nice FAQ: http://www.nma-fallout.com/fallout3/faq.shtml

nickdawgy 10-01-03 01:37 PM

Fallout Tactics was great. Not as good as Fallout 2, imo the best of the series, but it hardly "blew"

nickdawgy 10-01-03 01:41 PM

I just watched that trailer, and I have to disagree with you. It looks sweet. You must not be a hardcore Fallout fan, otherwise you'd appreciate anything Fallout related :D

Not the fallout tactics trailer, the fallout brotherhood of steel with the lame cg girl saying she was raised on guns and then the rock music and double gun logo appears and the chick drawings that appear randomly? You think that trailer looks good?

Appreciate anything fallout related? So if theres a gay porno with a fallout poster in the background am I supposed to appreciate it because its fallout related?

:D:D:D:D

I'm a fan of good games, not franchises. No matter how cool a character or concept is I'd rather the game be good.

Oh yeah.. wink ;)

shizawn 10-01-03 02:13 PM

Yeah, it looks pretty crappy, but I hope it sells well, and I hope Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 does too. More money for Interplay/BIS = better chance of Fallout 3 actually making it to the store shelves and into my hands.

nickdawgy 10-01-03 04:17 PM

I was talking about the trailer with the girl and stuff. It looks very cool.

Whatever. I loved fallout when I first played it some 8 years ago. Fallout tactics was a slow paced version of X-com, and I never played beyond the second map.

Its people like you who ruin good game franchises. Once a game gets good notariety and a big following, they stop supporting it. They can the lead designer for someone more affordable, and they put out crap games because they know that hardcore fans will appreciate anything related. Not me. I learned my lesson from Lucasarts about the same time SW: Rebellion came out.

For those interested in the Temple of Elemental Evil, beware. Atari forced an early release, and I found the game too buggy to bother with. We are getting closer to a CRPG that stays faithful to D&D rules, but that time still hasn't come yet. BTW, the best part of TOEE is available for free; the combat system. Do a search on the Wizards of the coast website.

Tigger 10-01-03 09:31 PM

... well Groucho you did have the option for turn based or free roaming... kinda a unique RTS as it was sold under...

Considering I worked on all 3 of the PC games, I loved Fallut 2 but the Engine and overall end result Fallout Tactics was awesome. Nothin could beat when you could get to Porn Star status in 2.

Unfortunately I predict the game will still be crap... Member the trailers at E3 for Giants: Citizen Kabuto? The Fanfare of MDK coming to console? Run Like Hell starring Lance Henriksen?.. what was the result of those stellar games? ....something to think about kiddies...

Whatever, yourself. Fallout Tactics was a great game. Obviously you are very picky. In some ways, FO Tactics improved on FO 1 and 2. As for "people like me" ruining game franchises, I really don't know how to comment on that. It's complainers like you that assume that a game isn't going to be good because so and so left the design team that really bugs me. Who knows, the new FO might suck hardcore, but I am not in position to judge it until I at the very least try the demo. Fortunately, neither are you.

The game came out in 1997.

Fallout was marketed and sold as an RPG. Which it was. Didn't resemble an RTS game in any way. And combat was ONLY turn-based.

Am I living in an alternate universe as everybody else?

At least you understand the crux of my argument. Im not going to walk into any games with preconcieved notions. I judge each one individually. Just because Masters of orion was one of my all time favorite games, that doesn't mean I will spare an ounce of critiscism for MOO 3

bdshort 10-02-03 12:27 AM

I wasn't even aware there was a new Fallout coming out (even if it isnt Fallout 3... yet)... I LOVED the first two games. They easily make my top 10 games of all time list. I'll check this out, the vids looked pretty good, and I enjoyed BG:DA, and this uses the same engine, correct? If it's no longer than BG:DA, I could just rent it :)

Looks like the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance engine is getting some use with this Fallout game and the Bard's Tale game.
