Isn't that girl from an iPod commercial? :D
|
She's from a Mac commercial. Rumored to be high on something, but I think she claimed she was a bit spacey because of some cold medication.

Just letting everyone know Tony Hawk came out today for N-Gage and it is AWESOME! If anyone has a chance to try this out, DO IT!

It's funny IGN usually reviews systems before they are released, but I can't find their Ngage system review. You don't think it's because of the all the cashe= Nokia stuffed in their pockets to plaster they site with Ngage propaganda do you?

N-GAGE
When you need unplayable versions of 5 year old games, accept no substitutions. |
The Tony Hawk games for GBA are 2D, the N-gage is 3D (just like the PSX versions).

BTW Gamespot has their THPS review up.
"The somewhat sloppy components of this port have rendered the final product pretty unimpressive overall" Score 6.8 -- Fair |
I think Gizmo is going to defend his purchase for a while, and I can't say I blame him, what with how much it cost.
But it doesn't look good for the n-gage. In fact, I think it looks downright bad. I read an article that said in its first week of release in Britain, it sold less than 500 units! In all of Britain! The games make the system; so if better games come out, maybe it will survive, but from all I've seen, there is not a single game that has gotten good reviews overall from a variety of reviewers. Methinks you will have an expensive curiosity of bad technological planning (or just a paperweight) ere too long. |
The numbers for America are just as dismal, less than 5,000 units sold in the first week.
Quite frankly, I'm suprised they sold that many. Looks like you are part of the few Gizmo. Enjoy it. http://www.1up.com/article2/0,4364,1358051,00.asp For a rough historical comparison, Atari's famous failed Jaguar console also sold approximately 5,000 units in its first week of release, at a $249 prince point. However, it racked up those sales solely in the metropolitan New York area, where Atari initially released it to test the market. Another rough comparison would be to the Game Boy Advance, which sold 540,000 units in its first week of availability in the United States. Its price point was significantly lower than the N-Gage's, however, which certainly accounted in part for its stronger sales. |
Its a dead system. I'm sure they will drop the price steadily over the next few months to clear out the inventory, but don't expect much in the way of games for it. There are probably some in development, but I doubt many companies are going to want to make games for it. By this time next year it will be a memory.

I was browsing through the magazines at the japanese book store and noticed there was an N-Gage magazine talking about it getting released in japan. I didn't know it was coming out over there, though it'll probably do just as bad as over here or worse considering cell phone games in japan are about 10 times better than whats on the N-Gage and cheaper.
BTW, DOAXVB is coming to N-Gage. I'm not lying. Graphics aren't quite what they used to be, doesn't really have the boob factor anymore so thats too bad considering it was one of the key elements to the game ;). |

Originally posted by GizmoDVD Nope, not going to 'defend' my purchase. I like the system, deal with it. But, if you get snippy about it, that will only support my "defending your purchase" statement. |
Ouch...now where are those people that told me this would be a bigger success than the EyeToy? :)
N-Gage Moves Under 5,000 Units By David Smith 10/20/2003 Less than 5,000 units of Nokia N-Gage hardware were sold in the United States in the system's first week of release, according to independent research firm Arcadia Research. That figure takes into account all retail locations that sold the N-Gage, including both videogame specialty retailers and cellular phone retailers. Nokia has not released official figures regarding how many N-Gages were shipped to retail, or how many pre-orders were placed by customers in advance. However, Arcadia's figures indicate that fewer consumers purchased N-Gages than placed pre-orders for the $299 "mobile gaming deck," which combines a cellular phone, videogame player, MP3 player, and PDA. ADVERTISEMENT When contacted for comment, Nokia representatives could not confirm or deny the above-mentioned sales figure. Disappointing sales of the N-Gage in the United States would neatly coincide with early figures from the United Kingdom, however, where market research firm Chart-Track counted approximately 500 N-Gages sold at videogame specialty retailers in the UK during the system's first week of release. For a rough historical comparison, Atari's famous failed Jaguar console also sold approximately 5,000 units in its first week of release, at a $249 prince point. N-Gage software sales figures have not become available as yet, but once those arrive, we'll be better able to gauge the system's overall performance in its first weeks of release. Expect further updates soon. |
Well when a system screws up the simplest game of all time (Puzzle Bobble) what did you expect?
|
Were talking about a $300 system and a $40 gadget...hmmm...
|
One of the coolest features of the NGage is Bluetooth wireless multiplayer gaming. Of course, you have to locate one of the other 5000 people in America that bought one to take advantage of that feature.
|
That's less than 100 units per state.
