New PS2 Model w Progressive Scan Is Out

For those of you waiting, I just got back from BB and they have it in stock, just came in today. The front of the box has a yellow triangle in the lower right corner with a "+" sign in it. The model number was either 50001 or 500001. They didn't have the new remote control though, at least there's supposed to be a new one right?

the old one still works with the new model, but there's a new model remote coming out anyways with standby/reset/eject buttons on it.

The new PS2 reads DVD-R/RW, CD-Rs, as well as having the network adaptor in the box. It's not "built-in" because then there would be no way to insert the HDD. It's already screwed to the system AFAIK, but it's the standard NA.

How much is it? I was hoping the network Adapter wouldn't be included i already have one, i guess I'll find someone who needs it, hopefully, there won't be disc read errors or other major flaws.
I had retired my ps2 but now that Tiger woods is only online for ps2 i had to start playing it again.

Not sure about your first question, but as for the other, yes the older PS2's were not progressive scan.

Look at your PS2's SCPH #. If it's the same numbers as Gideon posted, then you have the progressive scan and multi-format media features.

Does this new PS2 do progressive scan on all titles, or is it like Xbox and Gamecube where the game has to support it?

I'd guess that the game has to support it, thus it's mainly a bonus for DVDs rather than games at the moment.

My old PS2 does progressive scan for games that support it. I thought this new version only helped for watching DVDs.

Never mind, I think that's what Josh is saying.

I would list this as yet another feature that Sony should have implemented at launch(like the Network Adapter, Hard Drive, etc). I can only hope that when PS3 launches Sony has everything ready to go rather than waiting 2 years and making us pay for more add-ons.

I don't know.. it's for DVD playback only, so who cares? If you got the gear to view Prog. Scan you have a DVD Player already. Network Adapter, maybe, since the DC had one beforehand.

The only thing that SHOULD have been included was 4 controller ports.

The DC came with a 56K modem, you had to buy the network adapter seperately.

Should have included 4 WIRELESS controller slots. I was playing Vice City on my 46' Sony widescreen with the component cables and it still looked like poo compared to Gamecube titles. I know Vice City doesn't support prog-scan but come on...maybe the X-Box version will look better. Sony should have also included a Lifetime warranty as mine putzed out on me a while ago. See ya, waste of 200 dollars.

I got a new model at Walmart the other day. This was not the online pack, it was the regular $179.99 blue box PS2. It has a yellow corner on it with a plus sign.

The XBox version of GTA:VC will be a Progressive Scan and 16:9 capable port of the PC Version.

I thought I heard it was going to be 720p like other HD* Xbox games.

*ALtho technically 720p isn't true HD (1080i)

No adapter and no offroad fury, price $179.99. I wasn't planning to go on-line so this is a good for me. I thought I would have to buy one with the adapter and not end up using it.

That's not correct.
480i = standard definition
480p = enhanced definition
720p & 1080i = high definition

In fact some people say that 720p is better than 1080i. And it is, for moving pictures. For video without much movement, 1080i will be better. But they are both most definitely HD.

I need a little help.

I have a slightly older PS2 (maybe 10 months old). I wanted to use component cables to hook it up to my 47" HD-ready TV, but on regular games the picture looks all screwy. The ONLY way I can get it to look right is on a game like True Crime where I can select "Progressive Scan" in the game's menu option--then it works. But if I pop in any other game the screen is a mess.

WHY is this and is there anything I can do?

THANKS---

Do you have the settings on the PS2 set to 16:9?
