RIP George Plimpton, Mr. Intellivision

Writer George Plimton died Thursday at age 76. He was best known as a writer and had some memorable roles as an actor as well, usually as a stuffed shirt (ie Good Will Hunting). But for folks of my generation, he'll always be Mr Intellivision. His commercials were running non-stop in the early 80's; showing the "huge" difference of the system over the Atari 2600. I bet the differences are far less noticiable today, but those commercials are still burned in my brain. I never knew what a proper, pompous writer had to do with early console gaming, but in a way, he was a pioneer in the advancement of video games and the broad appeal of gaming. Rest in Peace.

Alternate headline:

Atari 2600 Fans Rejoice as Hate Mongering Intellivision Spokesman Rots in Hell ;)

For those of you who missed these commercials when they originally ran - here's some corporate propaganda for you to enjoy with your morning coffee...

I loved Intellivision baseball. Sad to hear he died, I like his cameos on Nero Wolfe. Its like every day its a new celebrity dying.

Huh... I remember the commercials now, but I wouldn't have associated that guy with the commercials. He's quite famous.

I remember him most from "Mouseterpiece Theatre" on the Disney Channel.
