Re: What SNES (or other) classics would you like to see on GBA?
Originally posted by PixyJunket So.. I'm playing through Link to the Past for what seems like the 6th time already on GBA, and with the upcoming SMB3 release, I've been thinking of some other classic games that would be great to have a portable version of. Obvious to any one who's seen me post in the numerous "[xxx]'s 100 Greatest Game" threads, my first choice would be Super Metroid. Why? Well because it's the greatest game of all time, duh. I would be happy with a direct port, but I have some ideas that would be nice additions. First it would be nice to have a diffuculty selection, even if it's just Normal and Hard. Instead of the 3 endings in the game, we could take a cue from Fusion and add 2 for 100% item colection (I'd say for over and under 2 hour), plus make the ending pictures different for Hard mode, and include an image gallery that lets you see all the endings you've unlocked (ala Japanese release of Metroid Fusion). I can't imagine anything adding to the main game to make it any better, since it's perfect and all.. but I think a new mini-game or something would be nice.. something like a "Challenge Mode" where you go through a few rooms fighting an ONSLAUGHT of enemies with limited weaponry.. *sigh* a guy can dream, can't he? Yes this would be so awesome! I really love Super Met and play through it every once in awhile. While I am really happy that they did make a new one I would still like the old one with bonus' As for the porting business I am kind of on the fence. I really haven't bought into all the mario ports and it really does look like Nintendo is milking them to death but I really do enjoy other ports such as Zelda:LTP and would love a port of all the classic SNES RPG's FF III Secret of Mana...you know the rest. I don't think that they have stopped making new ones for the sake of porting old ones though. |

While I understand why some people do not like ports, I play my GBA on the go a lot, so I enjoy taking the games with me, even if it is sitting at home with my NES or SNES.
That said, I'd love to see some side-scrolling arcade games ported from around the same time, such as TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, D&D, etc. For SNES games, I've always wanted a port of Might & Magic 3. I have a version on the PC, but to have a portable one for my GBA would be nice, especially since the SNES version is what got me into the series initially. Also, Mega Man X, X2, X3. I have 1 and 3, but am missing 2, but would still love all three in on a single cartridge. Also, I'll agree with the Castlevania IV one and add the desire for a 1-3 collection from the NES. (They did a Castlevania/Contra collection for the PC but NOT the GBA?! WHY?!) |

Originally posted by Revoltor Too bad Mario 3 won't be as magical to them as it was to us 20-something year olds. Its not magical because its pretty much known what the game has to offer and that it was pretty much expected to be the next in line. I once told myself (after the first Maio Advance came out) that i would buy a GBA if SMB3 came out for it . I have since changed my stance on that issue and decided that i will only reward Nintendo with $$ when they reward me with new game to play. |
For older games, I am all for the collections (being that they are most probably smaller in size) like upcoming Activision Anthology with 50 games from the 2600.
I would like: Zelda for the NES collection - both Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 - Adventures of Link on one cart. Yeah I have the originals, and yeah I have the ROMs, but I would like them portable. Shadowrun collection - both the Genesis and SNES versions on one cart. Each was different and fun in their own ways. Then other single games: Super Metroid Chronotrigger FF 3 I am sure there are lots more that I am not remembering. I think there needs to be a happy medium though...producing lots of new games, plus some ported classics to satisfy us old schoolers. Too much in any one direction and they risk alienating a segment of customers. |
