More Target Clearance

Just got back from my local Target. Picked up the GBA-GC link cable for $9.99 (normally $15), though I think that's an advertised price.

However, the big score for me was that they had the original Xbox Live Starters Kits for 50% off ($24.98). For any like me that have been waiting for a decent price before giving Live a shot, you may want to call around.

goLUCKY 09-10-03 02:30 PM

that's a good deal! Can you tell me what the expiration date is on the original LIVE Kit?

Check your local Wal-Mart. The GBA-GC link cable is $9.99 every day. Always has been AFAIK. It's also $9.99 at other good, cheap online stores like jandr.com

I heard about the live starter kits as well. Haven't checked my local stores yet though.

Checking the small print on the side of the box, it says: "Subscription offer expires 3/31/04."

So does this mean that you have up until that date to activate?

sjividen 09-10-03 09:53 PM

Ummm....I may be a complete idiot here, but this deal may have just gotten a bit better.

I think that the Live Kit that I got for $25 is actually Live 2.0. Feel free to correct me if I'm off base, but my kit includes the full version of Tetris Worlds and demos of Moto GP and MechAssault. Plus, it's got a copyright date of 2003. Is this 2.0? Anybody?

yes

Does anyone know if Target pricematches itself? I just picked up the Live Kit 2.0 from Target. It was 34.99. I went to two different Targets. I would like to get it for 25 bucks.

Sijividen is there anyway you can scan your receipt? I would like to take your receipt to see if I could pricematch. I'll wait to open it up for a couple of days. Anyone got any must have first game for Live? Open to suggestions. Thanks...

At my local Target (Deptford, NJ), the GBA-GC cable is $9.99 every day too, so I'm not sure if this is a special sale or not...

Thanks for the heads-up on the jandr.com deal. I've been wanting a GC/GBA link cable for a while now. Yeah, I guess I could go to Wal-Mart and get instant gratification, but why waste the gas money or energy? :)

Thanks, but a couple of clarifications:

I went to my local Target and they had 1 of each starter kits 1 & 2. They were both marked "Clearance" but were marked at $34.98 each and ring up for that. I picked up kit #2; I just bought one for $44.99 at BB last week now I don't know if I should PM or return. We'll see.

And Starter Kit #1 (demos of Moto GP and Whacked!, no Tetris) has a subscription expiration date of 10/31/03. It's Kit #2 that expires on 3/31/04. Since these are on clearance, I guess we'll see a new starter kit soon...

Elkabong57 09-11-03 01:07 PM

I went to 2 targets in my area, the Ypsilanti Michigan store had them for $34.98 and the Ann Arbor MIch store had them for $24.98. I got it at the ann arbor store.

as for the Experation date its my understanding that you have to start the subscription by that time to get the year.

Yes that's right. I just didn't want someone picking up a starter kit V1 as a Christmas gift for someone and then finding out the subscription offer had expired.

tommy28 09-11-03 02:11 PM

cool-ill have to check my targets!

teknowman 09-11-03 06:34 PM

i went to 2 targets today and they both had the xbox live for 34.99. so i picked it up. The one i got is the version 2.0 .. someone asked earlyer if target would pricematch themselfs, but i didnt see an answer. if so can someone who got it for 24.00 scan there rec. and post it.

sjividen 09-11-03 07:07 PM

I can e-mail a copy of the receipt to somebody that's willing to host it. Any takers?

el_jer 09-12-03 07:54 AM

YMMV but I asked if they matched clearance prices from another store a while back and the answer was no. This was specifically, on cleance merchandise.

My Target had the 1.0 version. What is the difference other than the expiration date. Seemed like a good deal since the new version that comes with the fll Mech Assualt game is listed at 69.99 at EB.

I have been waiting because I don't have a lot of time to get hooked on live. Crimson Skies is looking like fun though.

V 1.0 Starter kit comes with demos of Moto GP and Whacked. V 2.0 comes with the full version of Tetris World Online and demos of Moto GP and Mechassault.
Since you can find Mechassault for $20 (at Blockbuster, and I've seen it for sale at that price elsewhere), yes it is a good deal.

GatorDeb 09-12-03 09:40 AM

Decker have you found ANYTHING at a Vegas Target worth the time? The ones in Rampart+Charleston, Cheyenne and Tenaya, and Centennial Pkwy have nothing each time I go :(

Decker 09-12-03 10:01 AM

No games at all. I have a starter kit 2.0 I was going to return today (I showed it to the BB people with my receipt and got some $ back). You don't want this starter kit, do you?

GatorDeb 09-12-03 10:02 AM

How much? :)

I would be interested. The bad thing is that I have to change my username if I start a new account when mine expires, but if it comes with games and it's cheap...

Would you re-start your username? Better to pony up the $50 and keep GatorDeb huh?

I'd think so. It was $37 so you wouldn't save much. The offer for online service expires 3/31/04 as well. I don't know when you signed up for your service, but if it isn't due til after that, there's really no point.

GatorDeb 09-12-03 10:38 AM

Expired on December but I think I'll cough up the $50.

Have you gotten online yet? You are really getting on the XBOX train huh :)

BTW I replied in the Soul Calibur thread.

Targets around here suck, don't they?
