Soul Calibur 2 and HDTV
I can'y seem to make Soul Calibur work on my HDTV through the component video cable. I have no problem with other games (Halo, mechassault, Enter the matrix, KOTOR, Madden 2003, etc.), at least some of which I know are HD compatable. I can play the game fine if I plug it in through the standard video cable, but when I try to play it through the component cable I get no signal. I thought it might be a problem with the game using 720p as opposed to 1080i, but I get Monday night football (which is broadcast in 720p) just fine.
I've tried playing with the xbox settings (to use 720p only - as well as to use 480, 720, and 1080 all), but to no avail. The tv does not seem to have any settings that apply.
Has anyone successfully gotten the game to work at full hd quality? If so, please let me know if you know what I'm doing wrong, or please list all applicable settings if you don't.
Thanks

psxfan2: He's referring to the XBox version, not the GameCube version, which doesn't have a 720p mode.
Here's my guess, which could be completely baseless, but here goes anyway:
Your TV doesn't accept 720p as an input. When you watch Monday Night Football and other ABC programming, the signal is routed through a box or something similar that does the side-conversion to 1080i. The XBox, plugged directly into the set, is passing a signal that your television doesn't accept.
The other games you mentioned are only 480p, with the exception of Enter the Matrix, which would've played at 1080i with that option checked.
Another possibility may be that your TV accepts 720p, but through the component input that your HD signal is routed to, rather than the one your XBox is using. I would think this would be less likely than the former, though.

So. Cal. plays fine in HD/prog. scan for me. I have the Gamecube version though. The backgrounds get crisper, the fighting floor becomes super-detailed and the characters look awesome. Hope you get it to work dude.

I think ctyner is correct and your television doesn't accept 720p. Go into the dashboard settings and remove 720p from your available options, then you should be able to play the game in 480p through the component outs (it's widescreen in 480p to boot).

I have also had trouble getting SC2 to work. My TV accepts 720p signals and converts them to 1080i, so it should work. I read somewhere that SC2's 720p mode only works in a 4:3 AR, that seems a little strange to me at 16:9 is the HD standard AR. If that's truly the case, I'll stick with the widescreen 480p mode...
