Questions about USB Headsets for games

Today I picked up the Logitech USB headset, for use with my PS2 and NCAA 2004 and Socom 2 when it arrives. However, I noticed that all the headsets for the PS2 only offer 1 ear piece? This has me wondering how effective is this when playing games like Socom, where using in game sounds is essiential to gameplay (i.e. some running up on you or trying to pin-point gun fire).

I currently use a logitech headset with both a left and right earpiece when playing Counter Strike or UT2 on my PC and find having a separate left/right earpiece to be extremely valuable for gameplay.

Unfortunately I was late on getting online with the PS2 and did not pick up the original Socom, due to what others claimed as widespread cheating. So I am not quite sure if this is a problem or not?

From what I have read, the logitech 300 (49.95) has both earpieces and can be used for either pc or ps2. This is the one that Im picking up for the same reasons you listed above. I play CS, NCAA, and Madden online, so I need one that I can use for both the pc and the ps2, and as you said with both earpieces. If you can possibly change your order, I know the logitech 300 (I think that is the correct model #) can be used for both

The headsets made for PS2 are only for voice communication. Audio still comes out from your TV speakers or your sound system (gunshots, footsteps, etc). You don't hear any of that in the headset -- only other players' voices.

How essential to games are the headsets when playing online?

Because I really don't want to use one ever.

I stopped playing SOCCOM online because nobody I played with talked of made use of the headset.

If you can find a clan I'm sure they will be more serious about it but casual players I ran into were strictly run and gun.

Thanks, I was unaware of this. I'll give it a shot and see how it works. If not, maybe I'll try getting a hold to the headset that gr8fuldave mentioned.

The only game i've played with one is SOCOM, but it's absolutely essential for success.

I should mention that I mean online.
