How the heck did I get sucked in by Pokemon?
Bestbuy had Pokemon Ruby for the GBA on sale for 24.99 and for some reason, I picked it up since I ride a train an hour each way to work and needed a new game. I can't put the thing down. Five days ago, I didn't know what a Pokemon was, and now all I want to do is "catch them all."
Am I alone among thirtysomethings?

There may be a 12 step program to overcome this.
Pokemon WILL ruin your life. All you will be able to think about is Pokemon. You will find yourself having lenghty, indepth conversations with 8 year olds.
Back in the days of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow I got hooked. Was innocent enough, played a little of the pokemon ROM on the computer...had to go out and buy the gameboy red cartridge. Which was fine, until I discovered you can't catch them all on red, so I bought the blue cartridge... and another gameboy so I could trade with myself.
That's all nice and good... but I had to have the Yellow version, Pikachu is too darned adorable not to have as your starting character. And after I did finally catch them all, I began to pursue the Holy Grail of Pokemon The Mew.
After much blood, sweat, and tears, I finally obtained Mew. I had to find somebody with a gameshark actually. I played Yellow through the end so many times that I had all my starting lineup maxed out. Mew being one of them. Just when I thought my life was complete. They came out with pokemon gold/silver. I bought silver, played it all the way through and beat it. but I don't know, that magic, the passion wasn't there anymore.

I found the game horribly addictive and fun at first, but once the novelty wore off it became repetitve and boring. The bottom line is this: you're having fun and keeping yourself busy on the train. No harm in that!

It's a highly addicting game and even worse when you've got other people to battle and trade with (I had 3 people to play with).. I finally wore mine out at 97 hours.
In October they are releasing Pokemon e-Cards that will allow you to unlock new items, new people to battle, new toys for your hideout, and possibly some of the original Pokemon that aren't in the new game.

Don't feel alone, because I'm 30 and I just beat Pokemon Sapphire.
Sometimes I feel bad, because I know more pokemon types then my 5-yr old does.

Yu-Gi-Oh has tons of replay value. I play it all the time and I'm sure I've logged in more than 40 hours! There's all these tournaments and new duelists that come up as you acquire points that make you want to keep playing. I still don't know how to do everything in the game (fusions and all that)!

Awesome I'm limiting most new games I buy to those that have over 40 hours = 1 week of gameplay. I can't wait, I'm getting Stairway to the something Duel, Dungeon Dice Monsters, and one of the GBC versions along with Duelist Soul. Those four better last me a month
