Crazy Super Mario Bros movie
Warning. The movie is 100 MB or so. Worth the DL if on a high speed connection, but probably not on a dialup. I did a search and didn't see anything. Might be a report though.
http://www.blobbynet.com/movies/Crazygodtechnique.avi I did a little reading to determine whether there were any cheats or not. The conclusion seems to be that although he uses an emulator (presumably just so he can record the movie), all the tricks are possible with the real SMB cart for the NES (although most of the bugs have been fixed in SMB DX and Super Mario All-Stars). The first level isn't that impresive other than the Spoiler:
I'm anxious to try to replicate some of the tricks, particulary the Spoiler:
The one thing on the water section of 8-4 that might make you think it is fake or a cheat: Spoiler:

Hmm.. I downloaded this, but can't get the video to show, I only get the audio.. oh well :(

Oops, yeah I forgot to mention that. Sorry.

I saw this one a couple months ago, its insane! My jaw dropped more than once during the video. Especially the one where he gets it at zero seconds. Man...
I tried doing that jumping off the walls trick but I havn't been able to do it. If anyone knows please post!! |
Jack, that was the ticket. Thanks.
That guy is either way to good at mario, or using some sort of cheat. The water is what I don't get either, it looks like the flame bars are hitting the top of the char.. That guy does some silly stuff, I'm gonna have to break out my old mario and see if I can't pull some off that stuff off. |

Originally posted by juiio The water stuff isn't a cheat. If you duck while swimming, you still appear big, but you're really ducking and thus can't be hit on the upper part of your body (even if it appears that you are being hit). |
I was never a big mario fan but I, like most of you, played the heck out of that game. I never saw any of that stuff. as for water, I remember trying to duck but mario didn't change so I figured he couldn't duck in the water. How funny.

I used to be a master at Mario Bros. Not a crazy god like that guy was, but I did double jumps and stuff. I also used to zip through world 8 like that. It was actually easier if you did. I could jump over the flag on 3-3, but was disappointed to just find endless castle. The first time I did it I kept running right in the hopes that I would find something before time ran out. Alas, nothing. :(
I was most impressed by the beetle/bullet jump fest. That was insane. Killing the enemies by double jumps (Bowser) was also pretty impressive. The rest was merely awesome. ;) |

I just thought of another geeky-yet-vaguely-interesting story. This was for Super Mario World, which my best friend and I played, at worst, religiously after the Super Nintendo came out.
After we had got bored with the game, we found that the Game Genie could liven things up. Not in the game, but in the intro. We would give Mario invincibility, super jumping ability, etc. Interestingly, Mario would react appropriately. If he was invincible, he would run through the enemies. That kind of thing. It was funny to have him run headlong into the enemies and then turn off his invincibility, killing Mario in the introduction. After doing this way too much one day, and with a set of game genie codes that I can't remember but am pretty positive included the previous two I mentioned, I did the same as before, then reset the game. The game came up, but instead of having an introduction screen, it just had the introduction level, and Mario sat there, not moving. Thinking I had somehow unlocked some hitherto-unknown secret level through alternate means (we were convinced that there had to be 100 levels and that they just hadn't been revealed yet), I started playing as Mario. Bizarrely, I could control Mario in the introduction level. Even though there was no timer and we had (very carefully  ) killed all the enemies, there was no ending to the level despite me racing to the right, flying in the air, etc. Since there was no way to prove what we were doing (no film in his camera, and we were probably 12 at the time), we eventually just shut it off. |
Oh, I just found something that allows anyone to do it....
00D7-A678 00D7-A6FF Not quite the same (you have to fly or else you will fall through the ground, and there was no top information), but that's basically what happened. Strange when you're 12. Not so strange at 22. |
I was able to repro the double jump a couple times on a standard SMB/Duck Hunt cart on the original hardware.
I think you have to be on the downward slope of your jump. Other than that, I don't have any other clues yet. |
does anyone have a copy of this file?!?!?
I can't find it any more... but I wish I had saved it... it's crazy. |
link is down now :(
does anyone know if it will be up again or if I can get it from somewhere else :). |
|
I think this is the same one I saw awhile back. My file is 40 megs and divx though. 12minutes 6secs long? He is using an emulator so that is suspect right off the bat for some of the things.
