Finally played a PS2 on my 120" screen!

Well, I finally got a chance to hook up a system to my front projector. It's my cousin's, and it's too bad I couldn't find an Xbox to try because it has progressive output. But the PS2 looked decent, though it was a bit on the fuzzy side.

I'm projecting on a 120" diagonal (9 ft by 4.5 ft) HCCV screen with my Panny PT-L300U projector.

I'm a HUGE racing fan and car enthusiast so I was able to try out GT3, Burnout, Nascar Thunder 2002, and The Simpson's Road Rage with my cousin's Logitech Driving Force wheel. In short, it was fricking awesome! I totally feel like I'm driving the damn car. It's the closest thing to drivng without actually doing it. I had a blast. Now I can't wait to give an Xbox a try. I bet playing Halo on a 9 ft. wide screen is otherworldy!!!!!

Just thought I'd share.

I had a buddy that brought one of these home from work to watch the super bowl a few years ago. After that it was Goldeneye, Mario Kart, and WCW World Tour the rest of the night.

I play games and watch movies using a high-definition projector that projects the image onto a 14 ft by 21 ft wall. It's bigger than some movie theater screens and the resolution and color fidelity are phenomenal.

Fire up some Galaga on that bad boy, and THEN I'll be impressed.

I'll post a pic when I can. I don't have a digi cam right now.

I heard that some people get sick and throw up when they play a first person shooter on huge screens like this. Can't wait to try!

hmmm.... My mom does work at a college and has to use In Focus projectors for her job, and frequently has to take them home w/ her to go out on presentations. Maybe I should find out when she has one of those things and go visit her.....with my PS2.

How long do one of those projectors last before you have to change the bulb, and how much do the bulbs go for?

What's the approximate cost for your system?

HD Projectors go for around 10K and up I believe.

The bulb on a L300U lasts a long time, like 5000 hours

You can get low-end hi-def DLP projectors for around ~1K

My projector cost $1,800.

DVD's with good video transfer's look phenomenal! One's with bad transfer's look like garbage. I love reviewing Superbit Titles for dvdtalk because the projector really does the DVD justice. (If the transfer is good that is)

Like Gallant Pig said, bulb life for the PT-L300U is around 5,000 hours on low power mode. It's around 3,000 hours on high power mode, but the loss of bulb life isn't worth the increased light output, as it's hardly noticeable.

They aren't hi-def though, if you mean HD as in HD resolution. The ones you are talking about have 800x600 res I think.

I have the same PJ which I run off my HTPC and I love it. Great investment. I project to around 90 inches wide though.

Gallant,

Wow, I never knew you took the plunge for the ol' Panny L300U! That's great! Don't you just love it? I can't imagine watching movies on anything less now. I'm addicted.

Projecting at about 90 inches is a great size for this projector. Makes the image a little brighter and tad bit cleaner. But I have a sickness for that "big movie feel" so I went with a 120" Da Lite HCCV screen.

Oh and hats off to you for running an HTPC. I heard from a man on the inside that PC's are the future for HI-Def DVD. (not all those lame blue, red and magenta laser things going round.)
