I wasn't too excited about this game but the more I read the more I want it. I called game crazy and they have it for $49.99 but I think I will wait until Sunday to get the $10 giftcard from circuit city or best buy.

I have always been on the fence about Xbox, but I am going to order one just for this game. I know, its sad, but I have to do it. I so want it and dont want to wait for the PC version.

Sessa17 07-17-03 08:58 PM

Man, I'm not much of a gamer. I don't have an X-box, but reading all the unanimous near 10 reviews everywhere, I am VERY tempted to go out this weekend & by an X-box just for this game. IT seems like it's the type of game that could take me forever to complete, I just worry that there won't be any other decent X-box game that I'd ever buy.

Tuan Jim 07-17-03 09:01 PM

dammit -- my credit card messed up on my preorder and now Lucas Arts' store is out of stock.

Hope they get more in soon.

Same here, but I'm not really thrilled about shelling out $179 for the X-box just to play this and the other couple games that interest me (namely Halo and PDO).

Luckily, I don't have the money right now anyway, so giving into the temptation isn't an option. :D

I'm hoping I'll be able to resist until the next price drop. :D

Mittman 07-17-03 10:35 PM

Ehh, bought it today, and so far I'm not impressed. I have never played an RPG before, so I figured I would start on what was supposed to be the "best RPG ever". It really is quite boring in my opinion. The whole combat system by a random number generator is a little dull. I think this one is going back to Software Ect. and I will pick up Tiger Woods 2003 instead.

edstein 07-17-03 10:37 PM

As soon as I heard someone mention that this game is similar to Final Fantasy I was completely turned off. Oh how I hate turn based fighting. All other features of the game sound great. Next time give me the option of hack and slash.

Then leave it on automatic and don't pause it during battle.

You might prefer not using the auto-pause feature, but trust me, there no way you'll play through the game without pausing. If you want to play a hack and slash game play Baldur's Gate.

Regardless, this is the best game I've played on the xbox, and I've played most everything that's out. I never bought the xbox for a single killer title, but this might have been the one. I agree with IGN's rating of a 9.5, and so far the only reason it's not higher is the graphics (which are very good, but there is definately room for improvment), and the fact that the camera does not tilt up and down.

kegman 07-18-03 06:19 AM

I played for 2hrs last night and it was 75% action. Maybe it slows down but not yet for me. I think the game is a lot of fun so far. There is a lot to learn for this game. Actually reading the instruction manual.

BigDave 07-18-03 09:07 AM

It's been a great game so far. The fighting took a little bit to get used to, but I have no problem with it now. The graphics are very good, but not amazing. I am impressed with the amount of voice acting they have. You don't have to read everything if you're illiterate. ;)

I played about 7hrs worth (dang!) yesterday and enjoyed every bit of it. I have several quests on my to do list, but I'm currently about to
Spoiler:
race the swoop bikes inorder to save Bastilda.

Great game!

El-Kabong 07-18-03 09:32 AM

Damnit, damnit, damnit! Whenever I pre-order from Lucasarts directly, the game in question ususaly shows up the day before it shows up on the shelves. It's been like that for as long as I've been doing it - way back in the Jedi Knight days.

So, here it is - two days after launch on the game I *NEED* so bad I can taste it, and no game. My credit card's been charged, so I know it's on the way (which is why I didnt grab it at TRU last night). It just hasnt shown up yet.

It vexs me greatly.

Spiderbite 07-18-03 09:38 AM

Big Dave...how the hell did you
Spoiler:
get down to the lower city to race the swoop bikers?
I am stuck.
Spoiler:
did you have to beat all the duelists? I see the elevator to the lower city but the guard is always there and won't let me pass without the proper papers which I cannot seem to find.

Thanks.

By the way, I am an RPG retard so expect many questions as I delve further into this game.

SmackDaddy 07-18-03 10:00 AM

I'm thinkng a post release help thread is in order.

I'm currently
Spoiler:
wandering the upper city area. I've got one side quest, looking for some thug who's threatening a female tenant of the apt.complex. I've been to the cantina but did not find him. The dueling arena was pretty funny. I'm guessing you can go here anytime you need to aise some cash? Anyone know wehre to find the guy in the cantina and how to get to the lower city area?

As for the combat, it was the only thing that I was skeptical about . Having never played any previous Bioware titles I still wasn't sure what there quasi-realtime combat would be like. But, after playing for about an hour and a half last night, it was pretty fun and easy to use.

mrglass 07-18-03 10:05 AM

I decided a long time ago that I wanted to play as an evil character. I've never played an rpg where you could be a bad guy, so I thought it would be a nice change of pace. So, what do I do? I keep picking the "good" responses! I guess it's just in my nature to be a goodie two shoes.

al_bundy 07-18-03 10:12 AM

Spoiler:

You need to meet the Sith soldier in the cantina and go back to the party she invites you to. After everyone passes out you need to grab the Sith armor in the backpack and put it on to be able to go to the lower city.

You will also solve the Dia's bounty quest there.

Spiderbite 07-18-03 10:21 AM

Thanks Al! That definitely helps me.
Spoiler:
I have talked to her but never got as far as a party invite! She got pissed at me about something so I have not seen her since. I will look for her tonight!

I will start a "Help me!" thread so we can try to keep them separate.

karnblack 07-18-03 10:35 AM

I got the game yesterday after work and played for about three hours and it seems like I've barely gotten into it. The game is very reminiscent (at least to me) of Baldur's Gate I & II in the game mechanics. IIRC you could set the game to autopause when you sighted an enemy, and give commands to your party while paused. Plus the fact that KOTOR used the d20 system gives it the D&D feel. I also used to dual wield in BG2. I think I'm in for some quality fun for the next couple of weeks or so.

Spoiler:
I got the sith armor from some soldiers about to kill someone who stole some sith armor. I think that was in the north apartments. You just wander around the circle and you will come upon them. Just fight the soldiers and take their armor. Then you should be able to get to the lower city.

Kicker_of_Elves 07-18-03 10:51 AM

I picked it up yesterday, whoo hoo!

i am a big star wars fan but i have never gotten into rpg game's before (cept for shadowrun for the snes).I really am having fun playing this... its a lot different from what i am used to playing but in a good way..I gotta say when i got my first dark side points, it felt damn gooooooooood :D

Spoiler:
The dueling arena is awesome, but i got my ass kicked by the old guy about 3 times and gave up on trying to beat him... i collected a bounty on a female who killed a whole family, and i met this bounty hunter with 2 pistols who whooped my ass in a second. dont try to fight him and if u talk to him and he starts going 1... say "goodbye!" I am about to go into the sewers and see what the hells down there lol.. I can't wait to get my lightsaber baby yeah!

Spoiler:
That's weird. I killed them. They alien did say I could take their armor but I was never given an option to take it when I was near their bodies. Another thing I will have to go back and check out. How were you given the option?

karnblack 07-18-03 11:06 AM

Spoiler:
That's exactly how I got it. I looted the bodies before I talked to the alien. Then I asked if he could give me one of the armors he had stolen. He said no, but that I could take the dead soldier's armor. Then I was able to take the armor. Check all of the bodies. If you have trouble try changing targets with the trigger buttons.

mrpayroll 07-18-03 11:07 AM

This has been mentioned in the other threads, but you may not be reading them, but Frys has this for $37.99.

I wasn't previously interested or thinking about getting this game, but since I read the good reviews and the high scores on GameRankings.com, I just might buy it.

Chris

s}{ammer 07-18-03 02:05 PM

mrpayroll, I erally started wanting this game yesterday but since i am not that into RPGs I didn't know if I would get it or not. When I saw Fry's had it for $39.99 I went ahead and got it. I can't wait to see if it is as good as the trailers and such. Good thing about it is that this game seems to be selling like crazy, so perhaps xbox will start to see a lot more RPGs based on good sales of this.

I just picked it up at lunch at Frys for $37.99. I hope your price was a typo on your part ;).

Now I can start playing this new game and take my Gamecube back to my friends house (ages 11, 13 &14) so that they can play Animal Crossing, which I've been having a great time with the last 3 weeks, but am getting tired of it now.

Chris
