no best buy gamer gift cards ?

everyone on here talks about the best buy gamer gift cards. Do these work on PC games as well or just console games ?

I looked for some, but didn't see any. the only thing in a cd case was a purple birthday gift card, which said nothing about a $5 coupon. the only other thing they had was the normal gift cards, and some grad & wedding cards.

this was at best buy in Plano, Texas.

GatorDeb 07-01-03 02:32 PM

It's green, not purple. Did you ask around? A BB employee directed me straight to them.

Groucho 07-01-03 02:39 PM

You usually need to go down on a manager for them to sell you one.

sn9ke_eyes 07-01-03 02:54 PM

Yeah I was looking for green, could not find any. I usually try not to ask questions in Best Buy, but I may have to next time. You would think if they wanted to sell something though, it would be easy to find.

fujishig 07-01-03 03:35 PM

They've had a ton of them in my area. Sometimes by the games, sometimes at the register. For a while there I thought they were phasing them out, but that hasn't been the case.

They are getting newer gift certificates, and as the coupon only lasts until the end of this year (I think), they may start phasing these out. I've never had to ask a manager about it though... I have a hard enough time finding someone to help me, and then I have a hard time convincing them I don't need a replacement plan...

They have a ton of them in the Austin Best Buys, They are actually located in the videogame deparment.

nickdawgy 07-01-03 03:41 PM

I see them all the time by the PS2 games. They're green, and useable on any games, not just console stuff.

Outlaw 07-01-03 04:56 PM

At mine, they are placed where you would find a regular console game.

Check all 4 consoles (yes, GBA as well) game racks for them, there should be a bunch in one of them. It depends on on the store where they put them and varies. In mine they are next to the GBA games.

The $5 off coupon is actually the cardboard backing of the CD case, so just flip the case around to see it without even opening it. IF its not there, then ask an employee for the "Gamer's Gift Card." Usually workers who wander around the game area have somewhat of an idea what they are doing, again this is in my area :).

They work on PC games. (have not tried it though since i don't buy'em, but it says any game or accessory on the coupon).

sn9ke_eyes 07-01-03 05:14 PM

I scoured the area, looked at games, accessories, the cash registers. I guess I will need to ask or get glasses.

Superboy 07-01-03 05:34 PM

I hope they don't stop selling these. I have several in reserve just in case...

nickdawgy 07-01-03 09:37 PM

I used it last week on Rise of Nations, so it does work on PC games as well :D

Trevor 07-02-03 02:36 AM

In addition to all the areas mentioned above, they can also be often found at:

each cash register
the customer service desk
the gift card display at the front of the store
the CD new release aisle

All my local BBs have had hundreds of them the past few months. I have bought about 50, putting a penny or a dollar on them usually.

Hmm, the manager told me there was a $5 minimum, otherwise I would have gotten more at the time. Looks like it's time to head back there.

Joshic 07-02-03 09:32 AM

I think technically you are required to put at least $5 minimum, but some Best Buy employees will let you get away with less. Depends on who you talk to.

Superboy 07-02-03 09:41 AM

Heh. I put a penny on all of mine.

dvd-fanman 07-03-03 01:11 AM

I usually a few at a time when I walk into the store, put like $5 on each one, and then when I get the stuff I actually wanted to buy that day, I take all the giftcards off and use then right then and there and save the coupons that are left for later. :)

Thrillhouse 07-03-03 04:00 PM

I am just surprised that they don't get sick of having to ring up a card, take the card out, rip out the coupon, apply it to what you intend to buy (in an entirely separate order). I would think they would just say $5 off all video games. That would give them a big advantage over their competitors.

I usually do all the manual labor of removing the card/coupon for them.

GatorDeb 07-03-03 07:29 PM

I just got 12 :D I used one for the GB Player, so I have 11 left. I used up all the money I put in ($5 per card) so all I have left are the coupons. She gave me $10 off by mistake instead of $5 off so I ended up paying $64.32 after tax for the player, GC Minority Report, and GC Reign of Fire.

Ah, your a lot nicer then me!;)

GatorDeb 07-05-03 08:16 PM

I took them out of the case and even scratched the silver covering for her :D She was fine with everything until she realized I planned to use the giftcards then. THEN she groaned.

bigdaddy1980 07-05-03 08:29 PM

Has anyone seen these in Canadian Best Buy stores?

GatorDeb 07-05-03 09:03 PM

Hey bigdaddy1980 I have a question for you. Is it free of charge for you to call NorthAmericanDVD in Canada at (416) 218-0415? If it is I have a HUGE favor to ask of you (involved just a phone call and a plea for them to contact me re an order).

Are you able and would you mind doing that?
Thank you! :)

tanman 07-07-03 02:59 AM

You know I have been using copies for of these coupons for about a year now. I have never been turned down. As long as they can read it and scan it they never question it.
