Cell Phone Game Reviews...
Um... so I know there's a website for this sort of stuff, but there aren't many reviews on it - plus, I have a SprintPcs phone and there aren't hardly any reviews for the games available for that service. Anyway - With the NGage coming out (and probably failing miserably) I thought we could have a thread where we give our thoughts on whatever random games we've played.
I just downloaded a few - some are limited to 30 days, 60 days or 90 days... others are forever. So here's what I've played: demos - came pre-packaged on my PCS Vision phone... Astrosmash - Looked like a typical shooter - space invaders type of control. Asteroids type rocks come towards you and you have to shoot them and avoid being hit by them. No sound. You don't have to shoot because it's just always shooting for you. Basically, it's really lame. 2/10  Ms. Pac Man - One level only in this demo - music in tact to start the game off, but the 'wokka wokka' isn't. It's the original game as far as I can tell. Truly a classic. 7/10 Reversi - It's reversi - what else do you need to know? You move a pointer around to select the square you wanna put a pog in. The computer is smarter than me. I suck at this game. 6/10 JAMDAT Bowling - You only get to play one frame... that's two tosses of the ball. Controls aren't responsive enough to allow you to be accurate. Anyway - for a bowling game, I guess it's okay. I gotta deduct a few points though for it being only one frame - it takes up alot of space on the phone and takes a long time to load. 3/10 Here's the games I downloaded... Pac Man - Original Pac Man... like the arcade. Intro music is intact and the 'wokka wokka' is missing. Great game. Controls make it a little tough. 8/10 Mo' Top Gun - Vertical Shooter - you can play as Maverick or Ice Man. The controls aren't bad. The graphics are nice. The sounds aren't bad either. It's a top notch shooter considering it's a phone game. 7/10 Q*Bert - This is a good re-creation of the original arcade version. Sounds are there and the controls are decent - although not quite responsive enough to make me good at it. If you're a fan of the game, this is a good reproduction. 7/10 Gundam Space Assault - This got a good review on the website I checked out, but I thought it was crappy. Horizontal shooter with decent graphics and sound. It just doesn't really seem to make much sense. 5/10 Quarantine - This quirky game is really fun. You basically crawl around in first person through a tunnel and try to avoid getting caught or running out of oxygen. The graphics are funny and when you die they show a classic pic from Evil Dead 2. It's actually kinda scary - and that's saying alot for a cell phone game. 8/10 Tetris - It's Tetris. Classic. One cool addition is they show you a ghost shadow of where your block is going to land. This little additional help makes up for the controls. 8/10 |
I actually just purchased the ms pac man and qbert one for my phone this weekend, I was so bored in the car.. on a way to a wedding.
Both are good as you said, the q bert is a bit tough to control as you said, but still fun.. They were 4 bucks each I believe, and never expire.. I highly recommend the ms pacman one. Also awhile ago got riverboat blackjack or whatever.. It was 1 buck for 30 days. You would think a blackjack would be hard to mess up, however it takes way to many steps to play a hand, and just isn't worth in my opinion. |
I'll avoid that Blackjack game... :)
Someone wanna review Splinter Cell? Sprint doesn't offer it. |
My phone came with a demo of Super Monkey Ball. It looks pretty neat, but the controls are pretty rough. I think if my phone had a little joystick instead of a control pad, it might be a little easier.
You can download other games for free from 3gupload.com. They've got a Jezball rip off that's pretty good... I tried the poker game too (it isn't great, but hey, it's free!) That website also has free screen savers, ring tones, and allows you an easy way to upload your own graphics or songs to your phone. |
Thanks for the link - I downloaded a game called The Ring or something - it's like Zelda kinda. Pretty cool. The best part about that site is the ringers - I downloaded some crappy ringer from Sprint and paid money for it and it was only good for a month or so (yes, I know I'm dumb) and it sounded okay... then I listen to the free version of the same song and it sounds 100x better. I feel stupid for paying for that song through Sprint.

The Top Gun game is by far the best one IMO. I recommend purchasing any and every game you want to try and if you think it sucks, just call the game refund line. You have to enter the reason you want credit. I got the Italian Job and thought it was horrible and promptly got my credit.

I'd imagine the Pac-Man games are missing the wokka wokka sounds for sake of being less obnoxious in public areas.. of course, I could be wrong.

It's pretty cool. You talk to people, fight monsters, go into taverns and markets and buy stuff. Anyone who liked the original Zelda games should like this alot. 9/10  |
Too bad this site is only for Sprint PCS users... :(

I was referring to 3gupload.com, which did say that it is only for Sprint PCS phones in their FAQ...
What phones are compatible with this Site? ONLY SPRINT PCS VISION PHONES ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THIS SITE! Here is a list of phones that are compatible. Samsung A500 Samsung N400 LG 5350 Sanyo 4900 Sanyo 5300 Sanyo 6400 Sanyo 8100 Hitachi P300 |
ahhh... I'm sure the other services have sites with freebies like this.
|
Any games or reviews for Verizon phones?
|

Thought I'd revive this thread since I just received a new Sanyo 8100 from UPS this morning. I can't wait to jump on 3gupload.com to get some games (once the battery is done charging and I input all of my phone numbers).
I'm not too jazzed about checking out PCS Vision at the extra cost, especially if the ringtones and games expire. Anyone find any other games worth downloading onto your phone? |
Did you download anything yet?
