new GCN for $90, Xbox or PS2 for $114

There is already a thread that contains some info on this, but I wanted to make it clear for those who don't understand how great a deal this is. I've also consolidated a bunch of the info, and explained in better detail.

How to buy a brand-new GameCube for $90, or a PS2 or Xbox for $114: Sign up for the MSN dollars program at https://dollars.msn.com. There is currently a promotion going on for MSN dollars that lasts from 5/28/03 to 6/20/03. If you make purchases using MSN Dollars at a participating store, you get 20% back in MSN dollars (ie, money you can spend at a future date). www.ebgames.com is also featuring a promotion where you get a $30 mail-in rebate for buying a new game system, a $19.99 or higher accessory (eg memory card, extra controller), and a $29.99 or higher game. Yes, it's unfortunate that you have to buy a $19 accessory and a $29 game to take advantage of the $30 rebate, but who doesn't buy at least 1 game and 1 accessory when they buy a new system anyway?

So, if you buy a GameCube for $150, you get $30 back in MSN dollars in August, and a $30 mail-in rebate from EBGames: $150 - 30 - 30 = $90. Or if you buy a PS2 or Xbox for $180, you get $36 back in MSN dollars in August, and a $30 mail-in rebate from EBGames: $180 - 36 - 30 = $114. If you buy a Gamecube you get a AAA title for free also. It's almost like getting a Gamecube for $40.

Note that you can use MSN dollars to get 20% back on any purchase at a variety of stores - not just on video game stuff. Also note that the MSN dollars bonus that you get back is actually 20% of your total price (including shipping), so it actually ends up being slightly higher than 20%, which is great. Here is a link with info on how MSN dollars work, and the stores you can use it at:
http://shopping.msn.com/softcontent/...977&scmId=1301

Now go do your duty as an American by buying stuff and helping out this sagging economy!

It's a good deal, but it's not $90 for a GC:

$150 GC
$20 accessory
$30 game
_____
$200
$30 GC from EB (it's not $$ back)
$40 GC from MSN (you spent $200 x 20%)

So you get $270 worth of merchandise for $200, or for an Xbox or PS2, $294 worth of merchandise for $220. Still a good deal, but your math leaves some stuff out.

Ok, my bad. You actually get more money back than I thought, since the $19 accessory and $29 game figures into the cost of the 20% back.

But the fact remains that nobody buys a system without a memory card/extra controller/dvd kit. Also almost nobody buys a system without at least one $29 game. So adding the cost of the accessory and game to the system for this deal is kinda silly too.

But you DO need to buy those to get the $30 from EB. So you HAVE to add those to the cost to qualify for the rebate. You can't get the $30 without spending $50 more than the GC itself.

The $30.00 EB Rebate isn't a mail-in rebate. It's a $30.00 coupon that is sent via e-mail that can only use for future purchases at EB's online store.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Maybe I'll go with EB when I get my PS2.

Kinda off topic here a sec, but does anyone know if CC matches promotions? Target is giving away a free DVD remote when you buy a PS2 there, and I was wondering if CC would match that.

CC might price match Target with that deal (probably not though since most stores usually but wording about giveaways.) but Target will NOT price match anyone except for similar stores such as Wal Mart and KMart. And since they hardly carry any similar merchandise...

yeah Target sucks as far as price matches go. As far as CC goes, It's no big deal if they don't match it, I guess I can try.
