Wario Ware Is Excellent

Anyone else pick this up?

I've been following this game for awhile, had relatively high expectations and knew what was coming, but this game is still out there. This is easily the most spastic and unique game I've played in years.

$20 at Best Buy this week with the coupon.

illennium 05-26-03 06:00 PM

I will be at Best Buy tomorrow and am considering getting it. Do you get a sense of how long the game will remain fun? I feel like the novelty might wear off after an hour or two, but I could be wrong.

Ralph Wiggum 05-26-03 06:10 PM

It's not going to have the replay of an Advance Wars for sure. I do think it will be fun for a long time since it is a collection of unique twitch challenges. It's perfect to pick up and play for a few minutes and if you want some difficulty, spend the time to get good scores.

It's flat-out fun. :)

You said it! This game is the best pick up and play game I've played in a long time. This game sounded so weird I didn't really know what to expect until I played the demo from the preview disc. Check out the press release. Normally I never read these because its boring company propaganda, but this one is a little different from the usual fanfare.

NINTENDO'S BAD BOY OF VIDEO GAME$ TIRES OF SHARING SPOTLIGHT AND PROFIT$

Wario(TM)Vows to Break the Bank with New Start-up Company, WarioWare, Inc.

DIAMOND CITY, May 22, 2003 - With profit$ his top priority, Wario has set up shop in Diamond City and will sit at the helm of his newly established video game company, WarioWare, Inc.

In his new entrepreneurial role, Wario will $pend his time dreaming up ways to enjoy the fistfuls of ca$h he plans to rake in and has enlisted his friends to make his first game, WarioWare, Inc.(TM): Mega Microgame$. His team of developers has created a collection of more than 200 super-fast, instant-action game$ designed to push players' reflexes to their limits.

"The name of the game at WarioWare, Inc. is crank out as many game$ as possible, as fast as possible!" says Wario, president, WarioWare, Inc. "I've crammed so many game$ in here, I've lost count. I'm too busy counting my money, and soon there will be mountains of it. This business is going to be a ca$h cow! I don't know why I never thought of doing this before."

To avoid co$tly production overhead, Wario has taken a simple approach with his game$. In this series of microgame$, only the A Button and the + Control Pad are used for play and each game lasts just a few seconds. It's left up to the player to figure out what to do.

Wario's Diamond City production team holds a diverse mix of expertise. It includes: groovy disco dancer, Jimmy T, who specializes in sports game$; old school grade-schooler, 9-Volt, whose collection of retro classics will make you late for class; and savvy student, Mona, who scoops gelato at the gelateria. Other WarioWare, Inc. employees include: reckless cabbie duo Dribble and spitz; the intelligent life-form, Orbulon; the laboratory authority, Dr. Crygor; and two kickin' kindergartners, Kat and Ana.

Wario is courting other ideas to create additional microgame$ that can be mass-produced in no time flat. Potential developers who think they would cut the mustard will have the opportunity to enter a conte$t at http://www.warioware.biz in late May.

As a worldwide leader and innovator in the creation of lucrative interactive entertainment, WarioWare, Inc. of Diamond City manufactures and markets tons of microgame$ in order to make mountains of ca$h. For more information about WarioWare, Inc. or WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ log onto http://www.warioware.biz.

btw, don't click on the website if you have a history of seizures with bright objects. :)

I was really impressed with it. I haven't bought it yet, but I was able to try it out. A strange concept that turned out to be a great game.

People always want sequels from Nintendo, but I really love it when they go for something new and original. Its a fun game to play and a walk through the history of Nintendo gaming.

Excelesor 05-26-03 09:33 PM

cool, ill prolly pick it up in a few days since i'm going on out town for ten days and im going ot need a couple games to play on the plane trip.

drmoze 05-26-03 11:30 PM

"Getting to Wario" and "finishing it" aren't the point. How do you define "finishing it" anyway? Goin back and getting more than the minimum on the various characters after reaching the 1st boss unlocks more things. Plus, playing the grid mode lets you try to make a minimum high score and get a flower for the individual games. And some games neeed to be unlocked in this mode as well from better scores on the character modes.

For those who haven't played WW, you can unlock a few 'full' games like Dr. Wario, and several 2-player games (each player uses either the L or R button to compete head-to-head).

Lots of stuff to unlock and lots of replay to unlock things and to get higher scores here!

thegame370 05-27-03 05:21 AM

Picked this up today for my GF. It seems like a cool game. Some of the games look flat out silly, but so silly, it looks fun.

PixyJunket 05-27-03 08:12 AM

Holy crap this game is fun! This is the kind of genius, super fun game that is perfect for portable gaming, the kind of game you can play for 10 minutes or 2 hours. Reminds me of the good ol' days.

Got my first high score to be proud of, 65 on the 9-Volt stage. I will break 100.. I will..

To whomever said they would "finish it" and take it back.. looks like Sony has thier first customer for thier portable.

jediwicz 05-27-03 08:37 AM

I've already unlocked boss mode, easy mode, thrilling mode and a bunch of two player mini's but no Dr Wario. Has anyone done it yet and how? Thrilling mode is insane with only one chance availiable. This game is a must have especially if you have an SP. It takes portable gaming to a new level (albeit a mini-level). For those that are skeptical, download for free by way of new demo disc.

PixyJunket 05-27-03 08:38 AM

Dr Wario is unlockable I think Level 1 or 2, replay the level and get 20 points. You can check which one it is by reading the decription, it'll say "Get 20 points to get the hook-up!"

drmoze 05-27-03 11:05 AM

Yup, once you compelte the boss on the various game modes, you can then go back to them and the bottom text says how many points you need to unlock something else. I just got 30+ on each game mode, plan to go back and try to beat 40 on each. (etc. etc.) Plus I want to unlock all of the individual games in grid mode (some "?"s are still there in spots) and get high-score flowers for each. And see what else I can unlock....

BTW, the bottom text descriptions for the nintendo games are cool, with historical cites. Just unlocked the full arcade version of the sheriff game too.

PixyJunket 05-27-03 11:13 AM

Hey drmoze, try getting 40 points on the Legend of Zelda stage.. :D

K.K.DVDTalker 05-27-03 03:27 PM

does it unlock the original zelda?

drmoze 05-27-03 04:32 PM

Is that 40 points for the one zelda game in the grid, or 40 on the set of nintendo games in the 'games' section?

PixyJunket 05-27-03 05:22 PM

drmoze 05-27-03 07:07 PM

hmmm... Haven't tried it yet but the stated level is only 20. I'll go for 40 though... See what happens...

PixyJunket 05-27-03 09:25 PM

Fantastic, fun, spastic, crack-inspired gameplay.

MrKen 05-28-03 10:58 PM

83? Nice. And how the hell did you do that on your Second try?

This game is great. I just got back from a week in the Bahamas, and me and the girl played it A LOT. Yeah, we got to Wario pretty fast too, but that is totally not the point.

Highly reccomended game to KEEP. I don't think it can really get boring enough that you wouldn't want to play it again a few weeks or months later no matter how many hours you've put into it.

Got it for $20 too. Great game, one of the best i've played in a while. Hm, seems like my theory about GBA being the best system ever still reigns supreme - it has had some of the best releases lately.

Wasn't technically my 2nd try, played the game on my friends Gameboy and decided to go buy it myself. BUT.. I AM the master of classic Nintendo games so it only comes naturally.

;)
