Mario Kart- "Double Dash" Details
http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/mariokart_feat.html
The Mushroom Kingdom just got a whole lot more hectic as Mario & Co. double up for furious kart racing! The latest in the acclaimed Mario Kart series is here, and this time, you won't be racing alone! Each kart holds two racers, so choose from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Koopa, and Paratroopa and pair them up any way you see fit. The character in front handles the driving duties, while the character in the rear doles out damage with six normal items and eight special items that only specific characters can use. Racers can swap places at any time, so switch it up on the fly to make the best use of your items as you tear around curves and over huge elevation changes. http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/img/ma...screens_01.jpg http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/img/ma...screens_02.jpg |
Whoa.

Now that looks cool. This adds a great new twist to the "Kart" game genre. I'll be picking this one up I'm sure. But...will it be online?
|
Its confirmed that 8 players can play simultaneously with 2 gamecubes.
http://www.gamecubicle.com/news-nint...ly_details.htm The day that many Nintendo fans have been waiting for has arrived. Early this morning, the Japanese gaming publication Famitsu Weekly revealed the first Mario Kart Double Dash screens and details (scan of article). The game will feature sixteen playable characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Koopa, and Paratroopa, along with a number of hidden characters unlockable through game progress. Each vehicle carries a driver and passenger; the two can exchange seats at any time. Weapon selection is passenger-dependent. <b>Finally, 8-player LAN play via two networked GameCubes has been confirmed and is set to be unveiled at E3 2003 next month.</b> GameCubicle will have much more information as it breaks. |
Nintendo does it again....

So definitely no online capability? i don't know how many network adapters they're going to sell if they just promote LAN capability with their top games...

It could happen. Jeremy |
Nintendo believes that GBA-GC connectivity is the future of gaming, NOT online play. Get over it.

Originally posted by pixyboi I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have a dancing icon on my GBA then to be able to play Mario Kary with my friends across the country. Nintendo is in the right. |
Damn that looks fantastic. 2 characters in each kart seems like a great idea. I've been think about the next Mario Kart game for years now and that idea never crossed my mind.

LAN gaming with my friends is fun. Online gaming is nice, but just too nerdy for me. I have to interract with people. My physical taunts and victory dances just don't work over the internet.

:jawdrop:
Oh wow! -eek- The graphics look amazing. The kart designs are great. I also never thought about about having two characters in each kart. Leave it to Nintendo to surprise everyone! This change seems like it will add even more strategy to the game! And look, little Koopa Troopa is back! :D Wow. I want this game right now! |
Looks incredible. What's the street date for this one?
|
geez. its about time. I can't wait to get this one. What do you guys think of the karts? I preferred the go-karts from previous versions. These look like soap-box derby cars. I'm sure it will be fun though.

Nintendo comes through again!
I can't wait to see what people say about it after E3. If they're gonna have a playable version there - I'd have to say a few months out would be a reasonable projection for a street date. |
Eh. This doesn't look like any big deal to me.
I doubt that this game is any different from MK64 if Nintendo's efforts thus far on GameCube are any indication. If there was online play, I'd have been all over it. Unfortunately, the LAN system is something I will never utilize. Ah, well. |
Hurray! This and the new rogue squadron, nintendo is looking alright this year.

Looks great. Can't wait. The new twist should definitely freshen up the series.
As always, I don't give a :crap: about online gaming. |
It's about ding dang time we got some details about this. looks great.
|
I think it looks great! Can't wait for this one.
I wish that they did make it online compatable. If this one isn't it is a good chance that Mario Tennis and Golf will not be. |
