Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike...revealed!
Gamers.com has updated with the first screens and info on the game:
Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (screenshots) The article: Exactly one thing about Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike--the laser-hot GameCube-exclusive sequel to Cube-launch hit Rogue Leader--will not surprise you: When the game zips from hyperspace this fall, it'll pack a level on Hoth, the tundra-topped planetoid that has served as a seemingly Constitutionally mandated locale in nearly every Star Wars game set in the classic trilogy. "I can't remember how many times we've gone there," says Julian Eggebrecht, president of Rogue series developer Factor 5. "To quote the guys in the meetings at LucasArts [Rebel Strike's publisher and co-developer]: 'Are you nuts? You want to go to Hoth again?'" But Factor 5 didn't return to the ice world just out of habit, and we guarantee Rebel Strike will have you doing things on Hoth that you've never done in a Star Wars game before. You'll just have to pick up the June issue of EGM--which hits newsstands May 6 (subscribers get it this week)--to see how Factor 5 has re-written the rules of the Rogue Squadron games. Meanwhile, you'll find several hints in the seven exclusive screens presented here. For starters, it looks like players can now exit their vehicles, eh? And when they're not blasting stormtroopers in third-person levels, players will hop aboard everything in the Star Wars trilogy that moves--from whizzing speederbikes to chicken-walking AT-STs to ponderous TIE Bombers (which fire multiple lock-on missiles Panzer Dragoon-style). But the ultimate surprise: Expect the most souped-up two-player cooperative mode ever. Let's just say that once you play Rebel Strike's cooperative campaign with a pal, you might consider selling your used copy of Rogue Leader. You won't need it. Enough with your Jedi mind tricks--we're not revealing any more info. You'll just have to pick up the June EGM for all the exclusive details and nearly 40 screens you won't find anywhere. Oh, and come back here in mid-May for a spectacular two-minute gameplay movie that'll rule the galaxy. |
I know which booth I will be hitting first at e3.
|
I can't wait for this game. Probably my most anticipated game of the rest of 2003.
Can't wait to get the next EGM with the exclusive as well, not to mention it's the debut of a supposedly total redesign of the magazine. |
Oh man, I can't wait for this one. Rogue Leader was and still is one of the most graphically impressive games on any platform. If they can fix some of the problems with it it'll be amazing.
|
Wow!
I didn't see any problems with any of the previous two outings though. The best Star Wars games IMHO. OMG! Tons of stuff Inside an AT-ST! Luke tearin' up the underside of an AT-AT! A Taun Taun! Chewie! |
Holy... Im speechless.
When when when when |
The endor speeder screen shot........Wow!
|
nobody else has mentioned it yet, so maybe i'm alone on this one... but i'm loving the idea of 2-player co-op mode
|
Holy crap. RS 2 was the only reason I bought my GC, this game looks freakin awesome. If it drops to 100 for the GC, I'll definately get another one
 |
Can someone post the pix? I can't go to that site at work...
|
Pretty cool. Let's hope they allow more room for free exploration in this one.
|
Oh.....my........god
I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I hope the gameplay is better. There were 4 or so levels in Rogue Leader that I loved, but the rest were somewhere between horrible and tolerable.
|
CO-OP MODE! whoo hoo baby!!!!!!!!! :D

Whoa there! I'll add that one to my list, then!
:jawdrop: |
Here's hoping that this one is what its predecessors were not: fun.
|
...... oh sorry, I think I made a mess...
|
Wow, trigun, that's rough! I thought Rogue Leader was GC's killer app at the time.
|
Wonder how hard it will be , ah who cares I want that game!
|
Maybe I'm harsh because I loved the original X-Wing and Tie Fighter games on the PC. Some really intense dogfights. The Rogue Squadron games are obviously more arcadey but they just didn't grab me.
|
True, but I don't think I've ever played a game that made me feel "in the movie" like RL. Except in Jedi Outcast, when you FINALLY get far enough to effectively use your Force powers to block blasters, pull their guns out of their hands, and throw your lightsaber through them... If they could do put that in a game where you are actually in a scene from the movie that would be perfect...

I love that top screenshot - someone running the trench in an X-wing, someone covering you with a Y-wing...
