SOCOM 2 Details!!!!!!

The newest issue of the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine (OPM) has the first details on Sony Computer Entertainment's sequel to SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals. According to the publication, the game will have larger levels and two different modes of play: Breach and Escort. Artillery cannons can be manned by squad members, and the player can actually just watch his team in a Spectator mode. Sony is also taking efforts to make organization and conversation online much easier. Ranking lists and cards, similar to those in Phantasy Star Online, will be available, plus voice chat in lobbies is present. There's no release date, but Sony has already gone on record by saying that there won't be any monthly fees to play SOCOM 2.

No but if I were Sony I'd start charging a small fee for their more popular games. Their online gaming plan is awful. I played online with my PS2 until I got XBOX Live. I liked SOCCOM but going online with my PS2 isn't nearly as fun.

I would be all for a fee if it would serve to improve their system. As it stands voice in the lobby is great but this game is still a ways off. I wonder if those features will still be around when the game really comes out.

I've been playing in a regular game once per week with a bunch of guys I work with. It's a lot of fun when you play with the same group each week. The cheaters have made playing in a random game pointless.

Interesting that Sony announced no fees for SOCOM 2. Now that we are getting ever closer to Xbox Live monthly fees, I wonder if Sony is going to be making a bigger issue about their online gaming not having any monthly fees?

That article is great. The only video I've seen is kind of short and doesn't really show much in terms of new gameplay (just the urban setting). But the article had me drooling.

It's from the June issue (July has the Hulk on the cover). I'm pretty sure this is the same text from the article:

I've been playing for a few weeks now, and the servers are excellent. As good as they were when it first started last year.
Anyway I'm really interested in starting the DVD clan again. Anyone else interested please reply here or I'll also start a thread and reply there.

This can be for both Socom I and II for the clan that gets set up. I just would rather play with a regular group of guys than get stuck with cheaters and some players who are just jerks.

Thanks guys!

A guy from my clan posted up 4 videos showing gameplay footage. Pretty bad ass. I'll see if I can post the link to his website here or not.

P.S. If you guys get 4 or 5 members to revive clan [DVD], let's have a scrimmage with my clan, =MA=.

Yeah, me too.
I'd say let's set up a regular time and place to play. I'd say something like Monday's and Thursday's between 9PM ET and 1AM ET. How does that work for everyone else.
I could also do Sunday nights. Or have all of them and just try to show up whenever you can, and the rest of us can just play together.

I kind of like the Central boards, but if someone knows other ones we can get into without a problem that's fine.
