videogame rentals cost too much
local stores are blockbuster and hollywood video. $5.99 for 5 days. and with games costing $50, i'm not going to gamble a purchase without trying it first. i'd be happy with $2.99 for 3 days. dvd's are usually $2.99 for 5 days.

The Blockbusters in my area rent games for that price, but for 8 days.
|
Both of those web sites look good, but does anyone here use them? How's the selection? What's ther turn around time? Etc Etc
|
DVD's cost $20.00 rent for $2.99, Games cost $50.00 rent for $5.99, sounds fair to me (sorry to play Devil's advocate, I agree tho it sucks)
|
yeah, i like both of those online rental sites. any user comments?
one issue is that there's going to be 7 day turn around (a fourth of month) for another game (you mailing to them, them mailing new game to you), but that can't be helped, and not as big a deal if you go with more than 1 game at a time plan also game selection, and how long the wait is on popular new releases but my main concern is loss and damage since they all rely on usps. i've had items take extra 2 weeks to ship through them. |
Twice last year, Blockbuster offered a Game Freedom Pass. You could have out any two games for as long as you want for around $20 a month. Anyone know if there are plans to resurrect this deal?

Yeah Blockbuster charges way too much. I refuse to rent there.

ditto, $6 is a lot of money. I don't really need the game for 5 days either because it can find out whether i like it in 2. Hollywood video is the same way.
Luckily there's a really cool local shop by my campus. $3.25 for games for 3 days, and two for 1 every monday and tuesday. I would suggest you guys to go check out local rental stores in your area, you can find some killer deals even though it is a YMMV, try the yellow pages and give them some calls to see their rates. |
My local video store is pretty cool, $5 for 5 days, and you can swap the game once a day for something else. They have a pretty large VHS and DVD Library, with 5 movies/5 days/$5. You also get a free rental with 10 receipts. I only rent from there unless I can't find something(very rare), in which case I unfortunately have to rent from Hollywood Video.

I haven o problem with $6 to rent a game for 5 days. I kinda like it.
|
$6 is way too much. Fortunately, Gamestop lets you buy games and return them within a week(yes, even after opening them).
|
What 's shady is my local Blockbuster is more like FOUR days. They consider the day you rent day #1. So if you rent on a Monday, Friday is the return date.
At least Hollywood Video considers the NEXT day to be day #1. A Monday rental is due on Sat. |

Fortunately for me my local Hollywood Video rents games for $2.99 for 5 days. All DVDs and VHS (new releases and old) are $.99 for 5 days. This has been going on every since they opened 4 years ago - they have been in a price war with another video store.

Originally posted by AgtFox Yes, and as more people abuse this policy you will see it go by the wayside just like it did at EB. EB was a virtual renting place for a while there before they did the only 1 trade deal after 14 days (but there were still ways around it). Now you cannot trade anything in at all. I expect Gamestop to follow suit soon as people flood to them to do the same thing. |

videogame rentals cost too much yeah and water is wet |
My local videogame store lets you rent a game for $5 for a whole week - and if you like it enough you can purchase a new copy of the game you rented when you return it. You then get your $5 rental fee put towards the purchase of said game. (this only goes for games that are $39 and up)
|
I agree...
The rentals should be cheaper! I rarely rent anything from them because of the price. |
Blockbuster here is something like $4.99 or 4.50 for a week, but it's actually not due back till noon on the eighth day. Doesn't seem too bad considering how much time I put into it for that price : if I bought it.
|
I agree what happend to people renting for 99 cents a day. Thats the way to do it.
