Next Generation Poll
Let's assume all three companies launch their new consoles on the same day. All have the pretty much the same features, backward compatibility, wireless controllers, dvd playback, hard drive, online play, and 20 launch titles.
Which do you buy? Do you buy the successor to the system you already own? Or do you go outside the box to try the next gen version of the system you wanted to try last generation? |
I started out with my vote for Nintendo. Gotta have my Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, F-Zero, and Mario Kart fix. Then down the line I get another one.
I can't vote because I'd be getting an Xbox 2 and a PS3, but no Gamecube 2. You could've fixed this by having 4 choices and allowing us to pick as many as we want - one for each console and one for twikoff (won't buy one at all).
I'm not going to vote in this, because the key thing for me is the GAMES. It all depends on who has the "20 launch titles" that offer the most appeal to me.

I won't buy any until one of them has a couple of games (at least) that I have to play. I never really feel a need to buy a console the day it comes out, since there's usually a few excellent games still coming at that point for the old version.
If someone gave me one free, I'd probably pick the Playstation, since PS1 and PS2 have had more games that appeal to me than the competing systems. |
Probably same as this time. I swear at Bill Gates for ruining the gaming industry, buy a gamecube for the 1st party games. Then turn around 9 months later and send Bill some cash for a damn fine system.
I went with GC2, not knowing what the 20 games for each one is irrelevant since Nintendo always has good titles at or near the launch (IMHO). Waverace, Luigi's Mansion, and Madden were good enough at launch on the GameCube, I have no reason to believe that GC2 would not have a better or similar lineup.
I got the GC, then XBox, and then finally a PS2 for the current gen systems... |
I'd start with GC2 and then go on to XBox
I'll only be picking up Nintendo's next console, if I pick up one at all next gen.
I have never bought a system at launch. I'm usually playing catch-up with the games and systems I own. But for your poll, it would depend on the launch titles.
I'd get the PS3 simply for the great track record, and I know there would be some good launch games. Plus, it may be backward compatable.
I picked PS3 because my son is anticipating the next Ratchet and Clank.
After the massive price cuts within the first year and sparse (at best) releases in the first 9 months this gen, I don't intend on buying a console until well after launch next time.
GC2 and maybe neither of the others. I don't even use my PS2 because I just don't have the time for more than one system anymore.
If any, I'll start with the PS3. I play my PS2 way more than my GameCube right now. Also agree with Ralph...I don't think I'll be in as big a rush to get a next gen system on this go around.
As stated by a couple of others, it would depend on the launch titles. I picked up a cube for the RE series and wound up liking several other games. I'm not a Mario or Zelda fan, and never played Metroid (But Metroid Prime rocks). I never would have picked up the cube if it were not for RE. I would have most certainly went with the X-Box.
I don't see how someone could really choose given only the info you supplied, unless you are also stating that all 20 launch titles are identical, then there would be no difference. There will be a difference in the consoles, the titles will not be the same, etc. |
PS3. No hesitation.
Sony will make sure Take Two/Rockstar keeps the GTA franchise a Playstation exclusive, so that's where my first money goes. |
Whats up with you people do your forget microsoft owns rare, and is going to own sega.
So you would be missing out on Conkers series Perfect darks Sonic etc..... |
I learned my lesson, this time I'll go with one console and hold out for the others. The one I go with first will have a great killer app or the strongest launch lineup.
I just want to point out that history has shown more often than not that a console maker's second generation system is its biggest seller... sure there are exceptions, but then if you pointed them out it wouldn't look as good for Xbox

I would buy Nintendo first and wait for the first drop on PS2 and XBox unless there was a certain game driving me to do otherwise. Hell, I probably would buy the other two within a month or two.
