Never happen. They would be shooting themselves in the foot. PS2 is making WAY too much money right now, why would they want to kill it?

Sorry, Xbox surpasses PS2 in everyway.
Every way? Don't paint with such a broad brush.

Xbox does surpass PS2 in system specs.

PS2 surpasses Xbox (by a HUGE margin) in title availability...and that's without taking the backwards compatibility with PS1 into consideration.

PS2 has a wider selection of value titles.

PS2 has a wider selection of well-reviewed games.

With PS2, you can play DVDs right out of the box without having to invest in the remote.

Now, there are other factors like quality of games, controller, aesthetics, controller, etc. These are purely subjective categories, however. The bottom line is that a blanket statement like "Xbox surpasses PS2 in everyway" is demonstratably false.

Sorry, Xbox surpasses PS2 in everyway. But hey, your getting Splinter Cell for PS2, right?

From the sticky at the top of this page:
"The Video Game Talk forum is open to ALL GAMERS who use ALL PLATFORMS. Platform Bashing simply isn't tolerated here!"

Don't wanna sound like I'm thread bashing, but you've mentioned the same things a couple of times there. Personally I think that the only thing to PS2's advantage are the amount of games available. Everyone I know who has a PS2 (PS2 is more popular than XBOX here in the UK) has spent extra money on the region free + remote pack, and also a memory card cause I believe you need that for the region free to work, and to save games.
So saying that the PS2 is better than XBOX cause of the DVD playability out of the box is fruitless.

Hmmm, Let's look at the numbers from Japan shall we....

Console Hardware Sales Chart
From: Feb 17 - Feb 23, 2003
System Sales this week (Total Sales in 2003)

GameBoy Advance SP 83,200 (197,300)
PlayStation 2 46,200 (648,200)
GameBoy Advance 26,200 (663,000)
GameCube 5,600 (168,600)
Xbox 1,800 (40,200)
PSone 1,700 (24,100)
SwanCrystal 630 (12,500)
WonderSwan Color 290 (8,200)
GameBoy Color 250 (7,400)

Look at PS2, then PSone, then XBOX sales. What console do you think most developers would choose? No further comment.

I'm not saying that PS2 is better than the Xbox...I'm saying that in that one regard, PS2 is better than the Xbox. A couple things I left out:

Xbox doesn't require a memory card purchase.
Xbox doesn't require the purchase of a multi-tap for more than 2 players.

The whole purpose of my post was simply to show that a blanket statement like "Xbox surpasses PS2 in everyway" is absurd.

Actually this is quite true, Im shocked this top secret plan is starting to leak out. They are being hidden in new refrigerators as we speak. The plan is to announce that 3 million people already own PS3 one week before 30 games lauch for it at 79.99 each :) Given they will not be able to make more again for year those 3 million users will be so blessed to be select few to spend 79.99 a game for first year until they can manufacter them to mass market.

The PS3 is going to be an add-on to the PS2.
